Darkscar, who had originally been aiming for One-Ear, changed direction and launched himself at me instead. I was young, inexperienced; I didn't have time to jump aside. I felt razor-sharp claws rake across my shoulder, drawing streams of blood. I glimpsed Darkscar's grinning muzzle as I cowered back, too scared to fight back.
'Tigertail! Don't let your guard down!' a hoarse voice growled in my ear. I saw Loner shoving past me and locking his jaws around Darkscar's neck, heedless of the claws that tore his throat and chest at the same moment.
'Fool!' screamed Darkscar, losing his temper completely.
With a shudder, he threw Loner off him. The black dragon was flung about twenty feet away, slamming into the earth with a dull crack. Darkscar's bloodstained grin turned towards me. I bared my teeth right back, determined - this time - not to fail.
I ducked underneath Darkscar's jaws as they lunged towards me, then twisted around and struck him with my tail. Something in his wing cracked, but he didn't seem fazed. Still grinning, he whirled about with his claws and slashed at me before I could dodge. The force of the blow sent me flying backwards. Blue blood poured from the wounds in my neck and head, running into my eyes and half-blinding me. Darkscar strolled forwards, looming over me with that familiar, horrible grin on his face.
I saw him drawing in a deep breath as though preparing to blast fire at me. But something interrupted.
A blue dragon crashed out of the sky and into Darkscar's side, snarling at him, ripping at him with sharp claws and fangs. My eyes widened in raw shock when I recognised the blue dragon. It was Seaflight.
Seaflight had attacked Darkscar while he was unprepared. With a single b!te to his throat, she killed him instantly. He sunk to the ground with a long groan, blue blood splattering the grass around him.
Satisfied that her opponent was dead, Seaflight stepped over his body and walked over to me. There was no concern in her eyes at all, and I wondered if she would take the opportunity to finish me off.
'You all right, pup?' she asked instead.
'Fine,' I grunted as I struggled to my feet. I didn't want any help from her.
Seaflight strolled away with a snort of amusement. But after she'd gone, my gaze fell on Darkscar's corpse. A strange realisation hit me. Seaflight had saved my life, when she could easily have left me to die.
(End of Chapter Eight. Also, in case anyone was wondering, the dragons have blue blood in this story.)
Really great chapter! Actually one of my favs. Lol, I was like "Waitwut" in the blue blood part. That's a good way to censor it if you get what I mean. xDxD Can't wait for the next chapter!
@Radiant Stories should be long! As long as you make them in chapters like this, I don't care if they're long. But reading a long book can tire me off. xD
.-. i remember dragons having GREEN blood called ichiroth or something like that. You should really read "The Last Dragon Chronicles" (the 1st book is "The Fire Within")

You're such an amazing writer! You're stories are much better than mine and longer. I find it hard to write long stories. You are so good with words!

(Dragonologist) Thanks, but I think my stories are too long. These chapters are getting longer every time.

@Above Well, dragons are fantasy creatures. They can have whichever blood color you want them to have.

there actually are real animals with blue blood. Octopuses and Squids have blue blood, but it turns clear just after a few minutes if they die.
