"Off my bed" she says simply, getting off and sitting at the side. She points to his bed of sheets, "you have your own, and no going to the corner.."

''okay...'' He crawls off, curling up in the mess of sheets.

Jane sighs, "Look away" she instructs, grabbing a black silk nightgown. "No peeking, or I'll kill you, literally"

James does so, even covering his eyes with his tail.

Jane swiftly changes and collects some blankets that weren't stained. She grabs a pillow and begins making a bed in the floor. "Goodnight stalker.." she says with a joking tone, then covers herself.

''goodnight, killer.'' He says softly...

Within a few minutes, wherever Shift and Grin are, Shift is softly singing again. From Jane's room her singing is heard, which is oddly calming..

James nodds off, quickly falling asleep while grin remains stationary in his room.

Shift's singing is cut off, and she remains silent, the stitching around her jaw undoing itself once more and her body going motionless again. She hasn't been speaking nor moving the entire time lapse Jane and Jeff had left, only sometimes murmuring and twitching which can be worry some..

Grin goes and carefully stitches her jaw back together, softly cooing a mimic of her song, which he had listened to carefully.

"Grin.." Shift murmurs softly, hugging the doll version of him closely. Her once innocent happy expression seems overrun with despair. Whoever Gibby is seems to be torturing her, despite his lack of presence..

Grin softly strokes her hair as a parent would. The sun is starting to come up.

"That is when I see him staring... Always keeping me in his sight..."Shift murmurs, her song continuing. Something shifts in the corner of Grin's room, a chuckle following after.

Grin reaches up and flips on the lights. His bulbs are much lighter than any other in the mansion, for reasons he keps personal. They're almost to the point of blinding.

There's a groan and whimper, and the shadow soon flies out the in desperation. Shift winces from the bright light. "Nnh.."

Grin turns it back off. ''sorry... i should of gotten that flashlight when i had the chanse...

Shift doesn't speak, only whimpers, her body going tense. She finally manages to her open her eyes, the black one with its endless void and her yellow one looking like smudged gold. She carefully pats the ground, as if searching for him, missing his presence by her side..

Grin goes and sits beside her. ''It's okay... i'm right here.''

Oddly, she finally moves, shape-sifting into a cat and crawling onto his lap. The Grin doll stays in her mouth at all times. "Don't... Leave... P-please.." she pleads weakly, now as stiff as stone again.

''i wont... '' he says, softly stroking her.

"Th-thank.. You... S-so... Much..." she whimpers, her voice being strained as she tries to speak to him.

''rest, my dear...'' he softly coos. ''there is no need to give thanks...''

"I-I have one l-last gift for you.." she strains, her voice almost giving out. A little package appears in her mouth, which cusses the stitching to be undone again..

Grin gently takes it. ''thank you...'' he opens it carefully.

Inside the small package is a little small heart gem, resembling the one she has on her chest. "It's.. All... I... Can.. Give now..." she says, whimpering in pain as she forces her voice.

''thank you...'' grin says softly. ''Now rest. Don't strain yourself...''

"B-But.. I.. Want to stay a-awake.. Befor I'm.. Put to sleep.." Shift whispers..

''I'll be right here guarding you.'' Grin reassures.

"G-Grin..." Shift says, wanting to protest, but drowsiness soon gets the best of her. She closes her eyes, beginning to rest, softly humming.

Grin gently begins stitching her jaw back on again.

'Im such a nuisance, wasting his time like this..' Shift ponders, letting out a sigh. She wish she could just leave, but she felt so weak, the only energy she had was used to summon the gift and crawl onto his lap..

''I'm glad I can help you...'' Grin says gently. ''It feels nice helping someone..''

'H-He heard my thought..?' Shift thinks, turning to look up at him weakly. Maybe she doesn't need to talk..

Grin just cuddles her.

Shift whispers something under her breath, which causes her to blush..

''wha was that?'' Grin asks. ''I couldn't hear you...''

She mutters a bit louder, though it still can't be made out. "Bilruvu..." she said, her blush worsening.

''hm..? im afraid youre too silent...'' he says

"I-I love you.." she says more clearly, then shape-shifts into pure nothing so he won't see her in embarrassment. He found still feel her on his lap however..

''O-oh...'' Grin's white cheeks seem to blush a little. ''W-well.... thank... you....?''

Shift reappears again, though her face is hidden. "Your welcome.." she whispers sadly, curling up into a small ball around the Grin doll.

Grin sighs. ''Sorry, that sounded bad... I... love you too...''

Shifts ears perk up at this. D-Did he just..? "W-Wait, y-you do?" she forces out, not caring if it hurts her.

''I do...'' He says gently. ''Now rest. Do not strain yourself...''

Shift shape-shifts back to her normal self, leaning against him tiredly still being on his lap. There are so many things she'd like to say now, but eventually sleep takes over..

Grin gently strokes her hair as the sun begins peeking through his window.

Shift shudders once the light hits her, her eyes groggily opening. "nn..."

''Shall I move you?'' Grin asks.

"P-please.." Shift says, her voice starting to get better.

Grin lifts her andd carries her to his bed, which is still covered in shade.

"Grin.. Uh.. Here.. I kinda hogged your present.." she says, holding out the Grin doll to him.

Grin laughs. ''That's okay. If you still want to cuddle him, feel free too...'' he yawns. ''I need sleep anyhow.''

Shift thinks for a moment.. "I don't need him though.. I can cuddle you can't I?" she asks.

Grin's eyes twinkle. ''Of course.''

"Then lie down and let me be your doll" she says calmly, her voice sounding very sweet and smooth.

Grin lies down beside her, now realizing how tired he is.

Shift weakly curls around him, her arm slung across his chest. "Am I comfortable enough for you..?" she asks. She does feel quite soft and fluffy against him..

''Yes.'' Grin says, simply glad with her preasance.

"Hehe.. Mm.." Shift quickly falls asleep, her head lazily resting on his shoulder.

Grin soon falls asleep as well.

A few hours later into the day, shift begins to wake up. There was a scraping on the window, and it was freaking her out. Carefully she moves out of his arms to under the bed, humming softly.

Grin remains passed out on the bed.

Footsteps are heard approaching Grin's bed, a scraping on the floor behind it as it walks.

Grin fidgets...

There's a loud thunk on the bed, causing it to almost flip him over. After it's pure silence...

Grin groans. ''shut up, shayde....''

"Shayde?" a male's voice asks.

Grin suddenly and unexpectedly awakens, shooting up with the knife he keeps under his pillow, slashing wildly.

Grin's room is completely empty other then Shift's body being on the floor near the window. Her hair has stopped flowing in an ominous mist and her skin looks darker.

''huh..? S-shift..?'' Grin quickly gets up and goes to her body.

Shift doesnt move, only whimpers when he calls her name. "G-Grin.. h-he came again.." she stutters.

''I.... i'm sorry...'' Grin barely manages to say. ''I should of.... i... im sorry, Shift...''

Shift uses her remaining energy to crawl over to him, stopping right at his feet. She could only manage to curl up into a small ball of despair and fear. "It's okay.. you are forgiven.." she manages to say, glancing at the corner of Grin's room. A shadow stands in that corner, a wicked v!olet smile the only thing marking its presence.

Grin glares at the shadow, something.... odd in his eyes. He says nothing...

"Why are you keeping my most prized doll?" the shadpw asks, just smiling.

''Finders keepers.'' Grin replies.

"She's mine though, can't keep what belongs to someone else.." it says, continuing to grin.

''Sure I can.'' Grin says. ''I am right now, am i not?''

"Hehe, wow.. Hm.. How about I give you something in exchange?" it asks, then slides a doll toward Grin. It looks like a more colored version of Shift, but it's not alive like she is..

Grin laughs. ''Not a chanse, pal.'' he says, sliding the doll back. ''I much prefer the one I have now.''

"Alright then. Ill come back for her later" and witht that the smile fades. Grin feels something furry brush against his leg, only Shift as a cat wanting attention.

Grin lifts up the girl, softly stroking her...

Shift softly purrs, nudging against his arm weakly in loving manner. She was happy she had a bit more time with him, if only Gibby couldn't find her.. If Grin was going to keep her, Gibby was capable of hurting him to get her back. One thought popped up in her mind, and she didn't like it one bit. She would have to leave Grin.. Hightail it so he won't get hurt, or bring him with her. It was selfish though, to just take him, what about the others that were here that might actually care about his presence in the mansion? "Grin.. What if I said I have to go? To leave and maybe some day return..?" she asks, hoping it gets her answer.

Grin thinks a moment...
''I would come with you, and, if not, I would wait for you...''

"If you were to come with me, you may get hurt.. Would you still come?" Shift asks, her expression full of concern.

''I would if you want.'' He answers.

"Hehe, nn.." she curls up into a small ball on his lap, her ears flicking, trying to detect any unusual sounds.

The anomalous saxaphone duck plays a tiny little jig, then everything is silent.

Shift shivers and begins to hum her tune, only to be safe.. "Grin, c-can we get out of here..?" she asks, almost whimpering..

''Sure.'' He says, leaving the room and making his way to the kitchen with her in his arms.

Smile dog stands there blocking the way to the kitchen, giving Grin one of his infamous smiles. Jane's knife is in his mouth.. Shift just shudders, hiding her face behind her paws.

''morning Smile...'' Grin says, mildly annoyed. ''This is my friend, not your breakfast.''

"SMILE DOG!!" Jane's voice yells, coming from a nearby restroom. Underneath Smile is Jane's dress.. he playfully continues to smile, his tail wagging. Shift is very uncomfortable at this point, her claws softly kneading Grin's arms.

Grin laughs. ''good boy.'' He says, patting the dogs head and slipping past. ''Remind me to get you a bone later.''

James is jolted awake by Jane's yell. Instantly, he's up on the wall in a defensive stance, fully observant not to get stabbed, having woken up from a very disturbing dream.

Jane sighs from be hind the bathroom door, now knowing she'll be stuck Iin there awhile..

Shift almost meowz in joy when she sees a few cupcakes on a table. "May we gey those??" she adks.

''Well, i don't think they belong to us...'' Grin says carefully.

James relaxes a bit. ''is there a problem, jane..?'' He asks through the door.

Jane lightens up. "James! Smile dog stole my dress, and I can't come out because.. Well.. I have no clothes. Do you think you can get it for me?" she asks sweetly.

Sally pops up from behind the counter, "go ahead and take one!" she says, getting one for herself and biting into it. Shifts mews in fear just seeing Sally, why? No one will know..

''Okay. Thank you, Sally.'' He says, taking two from the tray.

Sally beams a bright smile when she's sees Shift. "Ooh! Can I pet her!?" she says, going on her knees and giving him a puppy face.

''Only if she lets you...'' Grin replies.

Shift tries to hide in Grin's arms, her ears flattened and her tail under her hind legs. "I guess not.." Sally says sadly, but her mood instantly changes when she sees Smile Dog, who she begins to chase out of the room. "PUPPY!!"

''What was that about..?'' grin asks when she leaves.

"S-Sorry.. I.. C-can't trust anyone right now.." she says, mewing sadly. "Right now all I know Gibby won't disguise himself as you, you're the only one I trust now.."

Grin gently cradles her,''okay... I understand, then...''

Shift softly purrs, feeling a bit more calm until BEN comes through the door. He looks the two curiously. "When did we get a cat?" BEN asks, retrieving a cupcake.

''Recently.'' Grin replies.

"Is she yours? She kinda cute" BEN says, beginning to approach. Shift fluffs up and mews, panicked.

Grin steps back. ''She isnt accustomed to others yet.'' He says nervously. ''Wouldnt want her accidentally hurting someone...''

BEN steps back, "Oh.. hehe, I guess she trusted you enough to hold her then. Lucky.." he mutters, crossing her arms. "Can I atleast stroke her back...?"

''Okay.'' Grin says, hoping that Shift would trust him...

Shift continues to shiver as BEN approaches and pets her. "She's really pretty.." he mutters, "where did you get her from?"

''She came to me...'' Grin says. ''I just kinda found her in my room, oddly enough... Stranger things have happened.''

"Stranger things..? Eh.. Well, good luck in keeping her. Smile dog could just eat her any day if he wanted to!" BEN says, then strolls out of the room. Shift shivers, making a small whimpering noise.. Once again, in the corner of the kitchen, a violet smile appears..

''He was just joking. Perhaps if you made yourself a dog he'd like you a little more, but that's okay...'' Grin says as comfortingly as he can.

"What would you like me to be...? Anything but a dog or wolf.." she says, continuing to shiver. The violet smiles slowly moves along the wall, inching closer to them..

Grin thinks a second... ''A raven.'' He decides.

Without warning Shift begins to sing her lullaby, causing the violet smile to frown and retreat. Recklessly she jumps out of his arms and runs off into the mansion, flashing certain colors in defense..

Grin runs after her, worried for her.

Shift crashes into a wall dead on, a sickening crack heard when making contact. She groans in pain, her jaw detaching itself like before. The violet smile appears before her, along with a shadowed hand ready to pick her up.

Grin quickly runs by, snatching up Shift before the man could take her. "Geez, Shift... don't do that...." He mutters.

Shift is unconcious, a small dent now made in the base of her forehead. Her jaw is almost completely off if it hadn't been for a few strings left holding it up. The man frowns, cursing under his breath before leaving.

Grin goes to his room to get his sewing items, then goes outside in the sun to repair the girl.

Shift just moans in pain after awhile, "sorry.. I ran off.." she apologizes.

Grin is at work repairing her jaw, having already fixed her head. "It's okay..." he sighs...

"H-he scared me.." Shift says, almost about to cry. Whoever this Gibby person is, he seems to have really scarred her..

Grin pets her softly. "what did he do to you to make you fear him so..?" He asks.

"H-he makes me bring in victims.. Just so he can make dolls out of them.. I myself am a victim, my name wasn't always Shift. In fact, my real name is Marcie.. I was always his prized doll, since he gave me his daughter's heart so I may live. Everyday he would work on me, sometimes messing up when I moved and he would punish me.. He tells me to work on dolls as well, but.. But do you know how p-painful it is to watch y-yourself take a life..? Worst of all watch them leave their life in pain..? Gibby snapped when they closed his shop.. Eventually I became his.. H-his.." Shift cannot speak anymore at this point, now becoming too afraid.

"His what..?" Grin asks softly.

"Nevermind about that.. Let's just say I was his toy.. Day and night.." Shift says looking as if about to cry.

"Oh... I see..." Grin holds her softly against him. "Sorry for prying..."

"I guess that's why he wants me back.. Unlike his other dolls I can feel, eat.. Function like a normal human girl. Only I can shape shift and look like a doll with my stitchings.." She says, letting a few tears escape her eyes. "I don't want to go back.."

"I wont let him have you..." Grin says softly. "You're too special... Too human to be treated like a doll..."

"I must go back, it's part of my story.. Never has there been written about an albino boy with a carved smile in his cheeks rescuing me from Gibby.." Shift says, not quietly crying,

"Nobody's story is written before them. I probably wasnt even in it at all, huh?" Grin replies.

"You don't know do you..? This is a new chapter in my story.. You are being written into my story now.." Shift says. It barely makes sense..

Grin thinks on that a moment...

" The final chapter has been written ahead of time.. I will be Gibby's.." she says.

Grin sighs...

"W-Well.. Now that you know.. You may as well dump me at his door. I don't want you involved in any of this, you may get hurt.." Shift says, her voice now shallow with no emotion.

"No..." Grin says softly. "I'll stay with you, no matter where you may be. I'll never leave you. Ever..." He says softly.

"He can take you in though.. Maybe turn you into a doll too.. You shouldn't suffer.." she says, now even more worried.

"Don't worry..." Grin sighs. "I hardly have a purpose anyhow."

"You aren't going to become a doll because of me, Grin. You are going to remain alive, if not for yourself then for me.. Stay alive Grin, life is too precious to let it waste.." she says. She seems to be smiling..

Grin remains silent.

Shift nervously hugs him now, afraid of having said something wrong.

"I suppose you're right..." HE sighs. "But I still wont leave you none the less."

Shift nervously sighs, shaking a bit. She didn't want him to get hurt, not at all.. "Okay then.." she says relunctantly, "just run if he manages to get a hold of me"

Grin sighs. She just didnt seem to understand...

Shift now is silent, almost going completely still in his arms. Somewhere off in the distance a violet smile with matching eyes watches them, observes them..

"H-he's near here.. Isn't he.." Shift says, starting to shake in his arms. "I can feel him.. B-but it's so bright outside.. H-he shouldn't.." Shift begind to panic, her breath quickening...

"He is, but he cant come near us" Grin softly coos. "Just stay in my arms and you'll be alright..."

"O-okay..." Shift stutters, trying to calm down. She fails however, her breath continuing to quicken and he body shaking even more. The violet smile in the distance looks like it's laughing..

Grin thinks a moment... "Shift, close your eyes and imagine yourself someplace else... someplace bright, a barren field, grass swaying softly around you... whispering to you unheard secrets..."

"I-I can't.. That makes me feel vulnerable.. The secrets.. All I can think about are the victims.." Shift says, the Grin doll which she never let go of one in between them as she hugs him a bit tighter..

"Then think of me..." He says softly. "Think of me against you, softly stroking your hair, feeling me against you..."

(Heh, repeat .w.)
Shift sighs, trying to calm herself with his words. She couldn't imagine anything at the moment, but his talking seemed to soothe her..

"My voice, just that, nothing else to interrupt you..." He says softly

Shift's eyes close, her breaths now slowing down to an even pace. The violet smile in the distance seems closer..

Grin gently hums to her, ignoring the smile.

The smile just stays there, it mocking grin getting wider. "Grin.." it sounds very close.. "Give me back my doll.. I'm giving you a chance to say goodbye.. ".
Shift whimpers, hearing the voice as well..

Grin closes his eyes, his own permanent grin seeming to widen...
"No." he says simply. Suddenly and unexpectedly, a darker aura enshrouds grin. It doesnt emanate from himself, but a source that seems to be beside them. This presance even rivals that of Gibby, though it seems to be more of a guardian angel to grin rathar than something evil...

The voice is a bit farther when it speaks. "Have it your way then, just don't start crying that you weren't able to say goodbye when one day you wake up and she's gone. She's mine, rightfully mine. She has my logo, my sewing, my power, my cloth, my eye.." the smile says, then fades. Grin didn't notice, but Shift was softly singing her lullaby, a small smile on her face. She seemed to have successfully made it into her "happy place", which calmed her so many ways..

Grin sighs as the aura fades...

Shift awakens at the sigh, for once she looks happy again.. "Thank you Grin.. I sense he is gone now.." Shift says in a sweet voice.

"He is." He replies.

Shift changes form, now appearing as a raven. The only this wrong is the eye is the same as shift, and her markings are all across her chest and back. She flies onto Grin's shoulder and ruffles her feathers comfortingly. "Hehe, I'm your pet now.." she says, sighing happily.

"I like to think of you as more of a girlfriend." Grin chuckles. Wasnt the first time he had a girlfriend who was not human.

"Your my lover of sorts I guess, but if you want me to call you a boyfriend then I'd be happy to" she says, making a dove-like coo, even though she's raven..

"I'd love you to call me that." Grin says softly.

Shift nuzzles her small head against his cheek, continuing the cooing sound. "Okay.."

Grin sighs. "I love you, shift..." He whispers, barely audible.

Shift flies onto his lap, then looks up with what looks like a grin. "I love you too Grin, hehe.."

Grin lightly chuckles.

Shift coos happily, completely oblivious to the violet smile that suddenly appeared nearer.. With the distance he can take her somewhere else, just in case..

Grin gets up and carries her to the center of the sun covered yard. "hehe... I love you so much..."

Shift is perched on his arm, flapping her wings happily. "Heh, I'm glad you do. I feel so special now...." she says with a humorous laugh.

"Me too." He laughs lightly with her.

The violet smile in the distance saddens into a frown, then dissapears. Shift seems brighter, the markings on her wings and back glowing a beautiful gold color. "It makes me feel so fuzzy and warm inside.." Shift says, her feathers ruffling.

"So I see." Grin's eyes dazzle with the change. I'm glad for that..."

"You seem happy too, correct me if I'm wrong.." Shift says, her eye gleaming with the gold of bliss.

"I am." He confirms.

Shift shape-shifts into a cat once more, this seems to be her favorite.. "Hm.. We never got to eat those cupcakes.. Should we go?" she asks.

"Sure" Grin says happilly, getting up.

"You know Grin, i was wondering why you just started to love me.. Was it the dolls..?" she asks, propping herself on his shoulder before he gets up.

"It was simply you." He says. "I like how you act, how gentle you are... How soft you are, everything, really. I could ramble on forever."

"Hehe, I'm kinda shy in a way too.." she adds, gently nuzzling his cheek. Her whiskers softly tickle his neck.. "I hope uou dint mind being a cat often.."

"I think it's adorable." He says, almost laughing.

"Y-you do? That's nice! I'm glad.. I love kitties.." she whispers, now purring as she rubs his cheek.

Grin scratches her back in return. "Hehe..."

Shift purrs louder, she even licks his hand happily. This was some improvement..

Grin laughs. "Hehe, you seem so much happier..."

"How can I not be? I've got a lover!!" Shift says, now licking his cheek.

Grin lightly blushes. "Heheh... indeed you do."

"I really like the smile you have.. How did you get it?" she asks, now tracing the smile as she happily licks it, dangerously close to his lips...

Grin sighs. "You dont want to lick that... I have an infection that ate away the flesh there. It's still in my lungs..." He brushes her away from his lips.

"I'm a doll, I have no flesh Grin. If I did then it's fake.." Shift says, maneuvering her licks right to his lips. She doesn't seem to care at all.. nor does it look like she knows what she's doing..

Grin nudges her away again. "Then you'll simply carry it to others and accidentally infect them..."

Shift shape-shifts back to her old self, now standing in front of him. "Allow me, please.." Shift pleads, her hand going to his chin. "J-just one kiss... Please..?"

Grin sighs and is silent a moment... "Okay..."

"Nevermind.." Shift says after that bit of silence. "You don't seem to want to.. I don't want to force you.." she finishes, her voice sounding down-hearted.

Grin sighs again. "I'm sorry..."

"It's okay.. You don't want one, I understand.. I'm just trying to be a.. A girlfriend.. Because girlfriends and boyfriends kiss don't they..?" Shift asks.

"Sometimes." He says. "But other times they cuddle. They feel eachother, be with eachother... yearn for eachother."

Shift tilts her head, obviously confused. "H-how..?" she asks.

"In a personal way..." He says, not elaborating.

"I-I'll try.." Shift says, the carefully hugs him. Her hug is quite soft, maybe it can even be considered a fluffy.. It's obvious that it feels like he's hugging a plush doll..

Grin softly hugs her back. "Hehe... my little plushie..."

Shift softly nuzzles her head against his chest.. "My heart-warming smile.." she whispers.

"I just noticed how short I am.." Shift says, trying to say something.

Grin laughs. "That's okay. It makes you look cute."

"I'm.. Cute..? I thought I was creepy.." Shift says, looking up at him with her odd eyes. Well, eye..

"Yup. Cute. To me, at least." He says sweetly.

"Hehe, thank you" she says, the compliment making her smile brighter.

"You're welcome, my dear." He says, his bangs accidentally slipping in front of his red eyes.

Shift presses her body against his a bit more, trying to see his eyes from under his bangs. "Hehe, I'm not a deer.." she cutely says.

"Heh, not as in animal, love. As in an affectionate phrase." Srin lightly laughs.

Shift moves the piece of hair away from his eyes with a smile. "What do you mean..? Why would people call someone a deer to be nice..?" she asks again.

"No, dear. D e a r It's a different spelling with a different meaning." Grin explains.

"Oh.. Still, I wonder who came up with that. It's silly.." Shift says, then shape-shifting into a deer just for fun.
