かっこいい!!

TECHNO-BITS

14 Jan, 2014, 10:35 pm

Tracing for practice is acceptable, but if you do so to steal then thats bad.

JJMAwaken

14 Jan, 2014, 10:35 pm

some people use the dropper to reselect the color they've already mixed while using a reference on the top screen only, it's clearly evident what people do by watching their replays

RetracO77

14 Jan, 2014, 10:38 pm

Yeah, but some don't give credit.

TECHNO-BITS

14 Jan, 2014, 10:38 pm

JJMAwaken- True, I just want people to know that using reference is completely ok

NatoktheDragon

14 Jan, 2014, 10:50 pm

I use references since I draw most of my paintings on paper first. I used to trace screenshots from games, but I give credit to Nintendo. Only reason I trace them is because to show I love the games. I also work hard on them.

TECHNO-BITS

14 Jan, 2014, 10:51 pm

Using reference is alright :)

There's nothing wrong with referencing. I actually haven't used this icon in a long time! 8 T

14 Jan, 2014, 11:28 pm

I agree, using a reference is alright :) iv done it with my own artwork a few times. as long as people give credit. but for some reason this icon shows up on all the paintings I uploaded before the colors! update .-.

I've gotta admit, I do trace, but I trace things I drew on paper.

JJMAwaken

15 Jan, 2014, 1:08 am

I agree it is okay, I'm not a huge fan of outright tracing and most of the time it doesn't look as good either but artists in real life use references too

NICE QUOTE AND GREAT PIC !! WAIT , NO TRACING .... ?! WOW !! ^_^

yeah that's true, I wish I was good at making up characters and things but I pretty much almost always need a reference. thanks for another shout out :)

15 Jan, 2014, 3:14 am

There's nothing wrong with using a reference photo. The creativity lies on how you utilise the tools at your disposal to create the overall feel of your painting, referenced or not.

lulu453

15 Jan, 2014, 3:43 am

I only trace my own work from my notebook sketches - as, I'm sure, other people do. The closest I get to teaching is using a reference.

15 Jan, 2014, 6:53 am

I reference off my phone. the images are far less pixelated than on a 3ds screen

I always try to change images I'm references to make it my own. Making an exact copy of something I think is pointless unless it looks cool in 3d

Krazy Katt111

15 Jan, 2014, 7:00 am

I just use visual references from my computer.
There is only one picture in my gallery with the camera icon: the Lando gift. And it's because I was suuuper slow with the sketch and ran out of undos, so I put the sketch on my sd card then traced it.

Tracing only p!sses me off when you trace someone else's art and say it's yours. You're an a**hole if you do that.
Tracing your own art - As fine as anything could possibly be!
Tracing for anatomy help - Cool, just don't be an a** and say "i drew it on paper!!1"
Tracing and saying it's yours when it isn't - I don't like you. And if you do it enough I will go tell the original creator. [If I can locate him/her)

One time I saw a detailed painting done without the photo or eraser icon.

Minori_desu

15 Jan, 2014, 10:04 am

But using the photo of 3ds may be your art too easy.that's why I do without a photo, because I wanna show my real talent.

floatybubblez

15 Jan, 2014, 10:50 am

sometimes (like i do) i draw it on paper and then i take a picture of it to draw, like i never trace things i didn't come up with

EJC2

15 Jan, 2014, 11:33 am

I always use a reference (i would b lost without it)

15 Jan, 2014, 4:19 pm

Nothing wrong with using reference, it's impossible to know everything by memory.

ShapeShift

15 Jan, 2014, 10:10 pm

YES. I sometimes take pictures of myself for reference on poses and anatomy. And lots of people have complicated characters so taking a picture of their ref sheet means I don't have to worry about getting detail or colors wrong.

Shugo

15 Jan, 2014, 10:24 pm

I only use it to get my colors right. If I don't use a color sheet my characters colors usually become wrong

AkidaSketch

15 Jan, 2014, 11:32 pm

16 Jan, 2014, 1:49 am

I use a reference to make my pixel art otherwise its really hard to make it lined up and straight.

Snow Paw

16 Jan, 2014, 5:23 am

when painting a realistic photo, pixel art, or other stuff that needs a reference, the photo icon is fine. :) i hate it that people think a painting is traced the minute they see the photo icon. but i also hate it when a traced pitcure gets popular. XD

SoulShaderDraws

16 Jan, 2014, 6:42 am

18 Jan, 2014, 1:43 am

It's a shame that this icon has been reconstructed to be a bad thing. Those who use photos for only referencing are automatically looked down upon.

Prisma_Nano

18 Jan, 2014, 4:13 am

Reference either comes from your memory or a physical photograph. Maybe You should have used a photo reference for this painting XD

I draw on paper a base of my drawing and the I use it as a reference

JordanT

19 Feb, 2014, 12:22 pm

Tracing is an art just as much as anime is. Did you ever try tracing? Go ahead, it might be harder than you expect.

Komodo_Wolfgang

21 Feb, 2014, 5:29 pm

If the person says where they traced it from, thats fine.

SkyWolfz

11 May, 2014, 3:20 pm

I agree with Jordan T 100 percent! I'm not that good at drawing...PERIOD, on here, but on my art pad I'm not so bad! So sometimes I have to use a pic for reference on here! So what? But I do NOT ''steal'' other peoples art! And seriously, it's not as easy as some of you "gifted" artists thinks it is...it just 'helps' those of us that aren't so....."gifted"! And I've noticed, lately, the more I draw on here, the better I am getting and the less I need the ref. pics! so pfft to those who want to 'degrade' us for that dang camera icon. *sigh* I love to draw...I'm sorry I'm not as "great"/good as some of you :( *sigh->again* It shouldn't matter how good a person is, or if they traced, or used a reference photo or whatever...if a person enjoys it....then they should do it without being criticized for HOW they did it! Freedom of Art! And btw, you did a great job on this pic here...w/o ref. pic...nice job!

Arschcraft

16 May, 2014, 2:57 pm

what is so coo´l on this...?

DestinySword

24 May, 2014, 11:52 am

I was thinking about that and i guess that is just necesary to use a reference only for some details but the most of the content of the painting shoud be created, not recreated.

If not, ¿¿ where is the essence of the painting ?? I always think that we should appreciate the imagination at the hour to paint.

In my opinion is more beautiful and dificult to create an oc or a fantasy or scifi (or other) landscape that copiying something that other person created or copiying something from a photo.

...but that's just my opinion, i know that other people preffer recreations, because there are something diferent into them, something more artistic than a photo i guess...

...summarizing: i personally preffer the originality, that's all :)

dransnake

16 Jun, 2014, 5:28 am

The moral of this picture: just because the photo icon is there, does NOT mean the photo was traced.

SomeguycalledSmithy

28 Aug, 2014, 5:39 pm

Most of the paintings I have are traced, but that's what I find fun to do, And what my followers and other people love, I tend to do more, but from your art, I really need to start trying harder, if not my followers may get tired of the same old thing.
