Yukimata: Siren of the Snow (Entry) by Larka

The Yukimata is a sinister predator that lurks around the coldest of mountain peaks and glacier valleys. When the weather is clear it hides deep beneath the ground and ice, however, when a blizzard or snowstorm starts it begins it's daily hunting. It unravels it's eight-foot tongue, with special markings at the end to make it look like a face, and waits for unsuspecting travelers to approach the "friendly face". (Size of Tiger)

(Continued) The predator then ambushes it's prey once it is close, and procedes to pin the victem down with it's large claws. The creature then uses it's tongue to steal and absorb all the termal body-heat from the prey, leaving a frozen mummy behind. They are solidary creatures and there will often only be one predator within a five-hundred mile territory. Long-lived, they can thrive to up to three-hundred years. The catch is that they hibernate for decades at a time, only coming out during the coldest of winters.

I based the creature partially on a ghost from Japanese myths.
