I'm working out Aveire's past. I was thinking she grew up as a street urchin and always escaped her tough life by climbing the tall trees and feeling the wind rush by. She met Yuka when she was 12, when she found the poor kitteh stuck in a tree in the driving rain. Aveire took her home and treated her like family. She didn't really have one, her older sister took care of her because their parents were arrested for a crime they didn't commit. She used to have a brother, he was a slayer and taught her how to use Rip Rattler when she was 10. But he vanished mysteriously when chasing a monster up north. By the time he disappeared, she was a pro at using Rip Rattler.
How's that?

I guess he was a weapon expert or somefin (hehe) who sold weapons to slayers and stuff and taught his younger sister how to use Rip Rattler, but died in a smelting accident resulting in a fire burning down his weapon store which was the only thing bringing money to the family? So that forced Aveire and her older sister Bianca to take to the streets? So Bianca had to work at a tiny diner, barely getting enough pay to feed herself and her sister?
I think this would work.
I want his name to be Adam. He'd be 17 when Aveire is 12. Bianca is nine years older than Aveire. That'd make her twenty-one when Aveire is sixteen.
