"Is he awake yet?"
"When will he open his eyes?"
"Can we please go outside now?"
That was all Jaykit heard. He still had not opened his eyes, and his mother, Willowsong, was worried for his health. Although Berryfur had assured the queen that her kit was healthy, and was only getting a bit of a late start, she still felt uncertain.
Willowsong sighed, "Alright, Grasskit, Pepperkit, you can go play... just... don't bother the elders."
Jaykit let out a small mew, "H-hey! I wanna go too!" he toddled toward the nursery opening, only to trip over his mother's tail. When he fell, he opened his eyes to see what had tripped him, "W-Willowsong! There's a snake!" he squealed, hiding behind his mother.
Willowsong chuckled, "No, Jaykit.... That's my tail," she meowed warmly, gazing down at her son. She felt a weight come off of her shoulders when her kit opened his eyes. He may be the smallest of the litter, but she could tell that this kit would do great things for AuroraClan.

Jaykit toddled after Pepperkit and Grasskit. He pounced onto his brother, chomping down onto his ear, "Beware of the mighty Jaystar!" he squeaked, thrashing his short tail. Pepperkit pushed him off, then growled, "Well, I'm Pepperstar of PepperClan! I'm the most vicious cat in the forest!" The little tom cuffed his brother's ears before springing away.
Jaykit mrrowed with laughter, chasing his brother. Grasskit, the mottled brown she-cat, joined the scuffle, "Well I'm a fox! Rawr!" she growled, biting Pepperkit's neck.
"Ow! Hey! Get off of me!" Pepperkit squeaked, plopping onto his side, since he was the largest of the litter. "Oof! Get offa me Fatkit!" his sister joked, squeezing out from beneath the brown kit.
Suddenly, a dark gray tom with near-black eyes was glaring down at them.
"Why don't you kits go roll in thorns, or eat death berries?" he growled menacingly.
"We're s-sorry..."
"Hmph..."
The dark tom skulked away, his long tail twitching irritably.
"Don't mind him," a voice said behind the trio.
Jaykit's head turned, and he saw a pretty sand coloured she-cat, "I'm Poppypaw. Nice to meet you!" she smiled warmly.
Pepperkit scooted closer to the apprentice, who wasn't much older then he was. "I'm P-Pepperkit," he meowed, twitching an ear.
Poppypaw giggled, "Nice to meet you! I hear that you'll be joining me next moon! I can't wait until there's more apprentices! The only cat with me is grumpy old Wasppaw. He always acts like his father, Leopardstar. He's the sour puss you just met," she mewed, averting her gaze to the over-sized tom, who was now eating a vole.
