Looks great here ^-^ I see you're rapidly improving on shading too! Backgrounds are normally used on many paintings depending if you want to use them ^-^ you can use any backgrounds in many ways but if you use a very detailed background on a picture with the main object/character in the painting, it will over shadow the main focus of the character/object.

In this painting its very good you used a green B.G. ( background ) because it showcases the main character in this one. ^-^ feel free and study my paintings as a guide for you and always have your signature in your paintings too. ^-^
