I find that extremely light colors such as white and very light hues of blue and yellow, using a blurred brush, usually work nicely for lightning.

@Shadow Eclipex: Haha, really? I don't watch Haychel over on dA and I think I found the picture in question. http://fav.me/d58mwi1 I don't think they really look the same other than there's blue electricity coming from the cheeks? Plus I did this a couple months before his. :'D
