don't be a jerk about how people want to behave like, dress like, and live like you're just making an a.ss of yourself and not the one that makes people go: hot dAAAAAAAAAAMN #rant
Sheeeet EXACTLY, I've heard this a lot, and not only is it terrible to think that, but these "girly girl" haters go waaaay overboard with stereotyping them as well (I mean, by using the term "girly girl", they're stereotyping by default, but you know what I mean, with the mocking and all). I was kinda happy though, some kid was saying crap about "how annoying girly girls are" and someone basically just called them out on their bs right there in class, so that was cool.
Opening up a whole new can of worms with the "act like a lady" thing, you're right, it's crap. There are some people who think there needs to be etiquette based on gender, and they seem to hold these standards for what they believe is "ladylike" which is utter trash, because they think they're holding women to "higher standards" and by doing so believe they're empowering women when in reality they're just being more se.xist than ever by enforcing said rules and restricting people instead. Same goes for how they treat men, they think there's a required system for "class" which is over the top as well, and almost as restrictive. Sure, being polite is important and all, but they go into this crap like "this is how men should act around women" and vice versa. Being polite is about how you treat PEOPLE not "men and women".
I typed a really good follow up to that thought and then Colors decided to d/c, so yeah.
Basically just, there's nothing wrong with holding yourself to those standards if done by choice, but enforcing them is crap, as well as is restricted by a gender binary way of thinking. So instead of "act like a man" or "act like a woman" the best thing is to be who you are and "act like a human being" or "don't act like an a.sshole".
