They said a ways back miiverse was supposed to come to 3ds by year's end. On Wii U the censoring is much better. It ought to fill the void.

According to your logic, it's fair if a teacher punishes the whole class just because a few kids are acting up. Does that sound fair? No. Nintendo is doing the same thing. I get WHY they did what they did, but there must be a better way... like, only punish those who misuse the app. The best way to do that would be to have swapnote moderated, sort of like Miiverse, so you can report people... that's why I think Miiverse will be added to the 3DS eventually (it was confirmed a while ago, no word on it recently though).

Also, I'm generally supportive of Nintendo's decisions, but I think it could have been handled like this:

A. Add Miiverse
B. Announce swapnote shutdown
C. End swapnote after one month

currently, they're doing this:
A. End swapnote without warning
B. Say nothing about Miiverse
C. Miiverse released... maybe?

@Anthro: yes, I believe Nintendo could've done something a little better, but I guess for the time being, they're trying to think of a better way to solve the issue...Reporting people would actually be a good idea though...

Exactly, Nintendo have to try and keep their image of a family friendly game buisiness, and nintendo doesnt anything else damaging thier sales after the wii u , you know, selling worse than the game cube.

Well, I don't really agree. There's idiots everywhere who abuse things. They shouldn't just cancel it because SOME people abuse, that's just stupid! Also, you can just block or even delete your friends who send offensive material. I mean, it's like saying to people "You can't talk to each other, cuz you might be mean to each other" and then disable them in some way to talk. You get my point.

I deleted my Swapnote AGES ago.I was never never able to get Spotpass on it.People might have used mature themes,or just plain rude.

They should add a Miiverse app on the 3DS that would be even better then Swapnote. I'm just thinking outloud.

I was alittle bit upset, but i understand the reason. swapnote was sort of like a 3ds facebook and it was one of the only ways i could communicate with my friends. i wish some people can just grow up and see that what they are doing effects all of us.

I'm gonna miss SwapNote. I was always happy everytime I see a blue light,hoping it's a new note. I hope Nintendo will revive soon. It's unfair and it's making certain costumers unhappy. Not to mention soiling their name more.

I am a little sadden by the Swapnote cancellation, but not by much. I never really used the software but I liked recieving special notes. With that said, I think Nintendo should have kept the special note delivery up and running instead of just discontinuing the service altogether. Oh well! Now the app will forever remain a sitting duck on my home screen.

Message to the idiot that thunks it's money cuts: Firstly, they do NOT use dedicated servers to manage this sort of messaging, it's mostly hybrid P2P.
Secondly, if it was dedicated servers for messaging do know how dirt-cheap that is? It's not money, it's just taking out the old apps for the new, wait for an NNID, Miiverse, etc.

@PikaPaka!! I totally agree it is the parents who are to blame for not setting the Parental Controls on the 3DS! I mean, just recently, there was a news story about kids who use iPhones to purchase and download apps without the parents' consent! The reason? The parents did not even think to set up Parental Controls if they knew they would give the iPhone/iPad to their child! This is exactly why Nintendo puts Parental Controls in every new system (hell, they even went out of their way to make the Parental Controls an actual application on the Wii U so owners wouldn't have to dig through the Settings to get to it!) In my mind, Parental Controls are so overlooked these days! Also, parents are really getting lazier now!
