Perhaps Calhoun's programming would keep her from completely "getting over" Brad. Her mind probably generates false memories of him on a regular basis, keeping her pain fresh at all times and ensuring that she stay within the cold, hard persona she was programmed with. She's learned to ignore her backstory-triggered flashbacks and dismiss them as nonreality, but she still can't help but wonder why it hurts so much to lose someone, if they never even existed.
