I believe it depends on both length and actual letters/numbers/symbols in it. When I take the "." off my username, it becomes a bright red. And I was just joking with Bman, of course! He's a really cool dude, and very nice too. :3

Hm, I never knew about the whole username/icon thing. Interesting. I always thought the icon colors were given at random.
