Because it's hegga tons cheaper than a 3ds, and kids 6 and under can use it safer as there's no 3d.

Overall, it was a smart business choice.
1. You don't have to worry about your (or your child's) eyesight getting messed up from the 3D.
2. It's way cheaper, so it allows people who couldn't afford a 3DS to get in on its great library of games.

I was planning to get one, because of the lower price, but they don't sell these in Japan. A Japanese copy of Monster Hunter 4 was what I was aiming for, but the best deals are like 450$ to import...
