It sounds like the friend you painted it with might have to be the one to upload it. Maybe?

there is an way... first go to options where you can copy or delete a pic. than press "copy in 3DS-camera" .
make a new pic and take the pic youve made for tracing...

my friend doesnt have the copy i made! but i was going to do what skykai said, but it wouldnt have the 3d effect. but its better than nothing.
