Bwahaha! I love you, Dok.

Oh, my golly, we must be related, because we think pretty much alike. XD
All my characters get thoughrough backstories. If they have a lot of weaknesses, it's because of trauma--same with mental illness.
Amnesia is one of the most annoying, unless they have a good story behind it and how they got the amnesia in the first place.
I also hate those shoujo manga-esque cool, perfect, handsome guy things. Like, "Oh! He's so handsome! So stylish! And he's popular! But he's got a secret crush on some dweeby loner!"
How unrealistic! I strive for realism. That is what us artist/writers do! >:3

Oh my gosh! I'm totally biased against those perfect guys too! I like a guy who's a little rough around the edges, and maybe not the most popular guy. They usually turn out to be the one who gets the girl anyways. Take Fruits Basket for example.

A list of animals that should have more ocs(I might make some of these to be silly):
-Sponges
-Starfish
-Barnacles
-Sea anenomes
-Geoducks(pronounced "gooey-duck")(I might make an oc of this)
-Oyster (so they can grow pearls and be all special desu)
-Coral
-Jumping beans(live insect larvae in a seed)
-jellyfish
-sea urchins
-sand dollars
-polyps

#monkfishlover, you... you good sir.... you may be a genius.
07 Sep, 2013, 5:27 am
I think it would be absolutely hilarious to see a sponge oc(with realistic anatomy and nothing like spongebob) with all of the mary sue characteristics and an emo personality and sparkle colors and scene hair.
07 Sep, 2013, 5:30 am
Don't temp me.
07 Sep, 2013, 5:36 am
DO IT.
YOU TWO MUST DO THAT. XD
07 Sep, 2013, 5:40 am
The sponge could also have a life-long dream to be a wolf!
07 Sep, 2013, 5:42 am
I'm already working on my sponge. I'm making mine a girl. She's gonna be so much better than your sponge.
07 Sep, 2013, 6:03 am
^Oh, gawsh. XD
May the best sponge win! > u <

cant stand mary sues unless done reeeeeeely well. I hate when they just ignore canon to make a fantasy for them. Like a 4th tri-force or giving Inuyasha a sister who also has a sword who was also stuck in a tree who is also half human and also travels threw time who also has the same name as her artist.
Now if your doing parroddy or AU it might be ok, but what with RPers who cant be canon rolls or who need to dump the canon girl friend and take her place?
07 Sep, 2013, 6:29 am
Aaand, that's why I stay out of RPs involving canon characters!
07 Sep, 2013, 6:35 am
i dont agree with everything you said, but i understand what your saying. these types of characters will always exist and nothing is going to change that. now what you do to those character types is a different story.
07 Sep, 2013, 6:37 am
for instance a god character doesn't necessarily have to be the master of everything. i won't lie most are like that, but they don't have to be.
07 Sep, 2013, 6:43 am
for amnesia and weak characters you kind of explained how they work. ACs usually find out who they are throughout their story
and WCs usually get stronger, but it does depend on the character, like if the main C is weak then they're probably going to get stronger, but its a support C, well probably not
07 Sep, 2013, 6:44 am
No, they don't have to be, but most people are stubborn. People want their characters to be the best, but I think it just ruins the fun for everybody else, especially for people who are trying to make a good story.
07 Sep, 2013, 6:45 am
it seems as if your talking about the crazy anime characters, which if you are then yeah they're pretty bad. i do like deadpool though
07 Sep, 2013, 6:51 am
And I do understand that ACs and WCs do usually develope throughout the story, but it's only if the creator makes an effort to. Some people just like to play the helpless damsel in distress. Which I guess just irks me in general, on a personal level. There are people I know in real life that don't want to fight their own battles, they'd rather find somebody else to do it.
07 Sep, 2013, 6:52 am
Ah, so we agree on the so called 'crazy' ones? well, that's something. lol
07 Sep, 2013, 6:52 am
and for dead parents it just depends, some writers don't mention the parents of character because the story doesn't have anything to do with them. writers write them as dead so picky people don't go crazy and think themselves to de.ath
also sorry for not writing this in one big thing, but my internet sometimes times out and i have to rewrite it all

5- this is actually a storytelling trope used ridiculously. In stories/games/movies, exposition is almost always slow and painful, and if not explained to the audience, confuses them. So, how do you make it so that a character can explain the exposition while still keeping the story immersive and canon? Exxxxactlyyy. So then people see this trope and think whoooa so edgy and add it to their characters?????
4-Sooo annoying. Hate the whole she is cute and shy and kawaii but she will **** everyone schtick.
3-Used in moderation its ok, but more often than not these characters are author avatars for the kids feelings of anxiety and frustration towards peers at school. They exaggerate the problem and use it as an emotion outlet.
2- I am actually guilty of this one; idk for me its so **** awkward having parents come up in certain kinds of storytelling and I used their death to segue into the main arc of the story. it is defffinitely cliche though
07 Sep, 2013, 6:58 am
1- mary sues are more common among the brand new oc makers; usually they grow up and so do their characters. We are all guilty of having one at one point, no? :y
07 Sep, 2013, 7:03 am
bluetail - that's not true, not all artist and writers strive for realism. look at kingdom hearts its totally unrealistic, but its awesome
07 Sep, 2013, 7:05 am
Alexx, we understand each other more every day. lol.
07 Sep, 2013, 7:07 am
I posted the sponge!
07 Sep, 2013, 8:45 am
1 and 3 seem to be popular because many people base their OC off themselves, but because they are unpopular in real life they add special powers to them to make up for that. 2 and 5 seem to be done for lazyness so they don't have to think about a backstory. 4 is done to make characters a special snowflake but because everyone does it it ironically doesn't make characters special at all. Fortunately I also see plenty of good OC on here too :o
07 Sep, 2013, 10:36 am
@Deoreo- What I meant by that was "make everything in the backstory of your character seem possible in whatever world they live in."
Does that make sense? I dunno, that's how I create characters. XD
07 Sep, 2013, 3:09 pm
Aqua blue 3ds ftw?! :D
07 Sep, 2013, 4:39 pm
Also, wow, I think you might like my story based on your pet peeves.
5: Non of my characters have amnesia, but they both ( the main characters) have a lack of understanding
4: My antagonist is crazy, but for a reason that im surprised you mentioned, he does have schizophrenia. He was typically a good guy as a child ( although, the voices did tell him to do terrible things, he worked with his older brother who tried to help him get rid of the mental illness. over the years, the voice in his head got more violent and nothing helped. the older brother soon gave up on him and locked him away. to Which he contemplated over the years and listened to the voices. telling him to kill his older brother for locking him in an insane asylum.
3: Both of my main characters are weak in a way. the main character "Taiyo" is mentally weak but his younger brother, satori is physically weak. but throughout the story. They both grow stronger.
2: Their parents did die when my characters where young, I have to admit. but, its not like " hm, im going to make them parents, but i have no use for them so i'll just kill them off to for no reason" or "Oh no, my parents died in an accident, mugging, some type of sickness that immediately developed after my birth" no, they die in a logical manner with a plausible background. The main character and the main antagonist are closely related. (uncle and nephew) and the main character's father is the antagonist's older brother i was talking about earlier. The antagonist kills his older brother and his new wife of 6 years together out of spite and for starting a life with a woman of another race whose race wasn't so kind to each other at the time ( the race names are also fictional) but he fails to kill the children as they were able to escape as their father held the antagonist off, so their parents died from a sibling rivalry and grudges held on to for over 10 years.
1: NO GOD CHARACTERS. seriously, none of my characters are perfect or unbeatable/immortal. Although a handful of my characters have a mode called divinity mode to which they are somewhat perfect, energy wise, but the can still be beaten by someone wielding opposing power equal to that. or someone with better strategy, strength, agility etc. but you get the idea. . but aside from that, none of my characters are perfect beings, no one is. Especially the main character and Antagonist. they both have a mental illness.
^u^ hopefully you'll like this. i tried my best to re-invent the cliches and your pet peeves you mention in my tastes. It's a bit inevitable to avoid at least cliches in a story (I tried). sometimes, cliches can be good if they're done right, and not the way everyone else is doing it.
07 Sep, 2013, 10:15 pm
I agree with all of this. Bloody Mary Sues... Experienced roleplayers/writers may be able to make those traits interesting (if they feel like PUNISHING themselves, that is), but not beginners, and certainly not the average Colors user.
My main pet-peeve about OCs is ones that are part of an incredibly exclusive group (alicorns, air benders, akatsuki, etc), regardless of their explanations. It's spoiled AND lazy! Even if it's not a fandom OC, super special secret club characters just grate on me...
08 Sep, 2013, 3:20 am
bluetail yeah that makes sense
08 Sep, 2013, 3:25 pm
I agree with all of those, although god characters only make me mad when they are the main character in a story. If a secondary character is a god, it can either set up an impossible force to beat or be like a "boss" to the main character. I have two versions of my OC, Raos. the first, in story context, he is the son of a god who was stripped of his immortality and cast down to Earth, making him wonder what he wants to do with his life. (I haven't made this a stoey yet, but I hope I can). The second version is after the story, where is immortal with the powers of chaos. Since I use him on my Youtube channel to give out harsh criticism outside the context of a story, this works well, as I can make scenes where I can destroy things I hate.
08 Sep, 2013, 4:47 pm
I don't feel like saying anything about pet peeves but look up the manga called Sakamoto Desu Ga? and read it. The main character Sakamoto is like in a way, a god/perfect character and he is really enjoyable of a character.
10 Sep, 2013, 6:16 pm
Yeah I know. I think my biggest peeve is when they're immortal. IMMORATAL. SERIOUSLY. Once I saw someone make a normal bat chara and it was immortal. Geez. -^-'

De.ad parents?
-facepalm-
1 character has their parent d!e in front of them.
(minecraft)
Another was accidently abandoned, their parents thinking they'd come back.
(A Species on DeviantArt)
One of my mains have had their mother get ran over by a truck.
(Pokemon)
The only parents that are characters of mine are a pony (the mother isn't my character), a flareon (the mother is de.ad), and maybe another one that I can't remember.
Also, one is kinda guilty of 3 of these, being "de.ad parents", "split personality" (due to the next one), and "helpless" (but only in the sense that she won't k!ll any minecraft mobs, even the creepers who k!lled her parents). Well, at least she's not a godess, because that's just silly.
08 Dec, 2013, 9:49 pm
I agree with all of them but I know I must be guilty of one of these ... I just have no idea which one. I know not god thing cuz that is dumb and boring and has no need to rp because it won't be able to develop ... I think it is number four ... yeah I'm pretty sure I'm guilty of that but in RPS I try to use it for development and hilarity. Those kinds of Characters are fun sometimes if you use the right combinations ... at least that is what I think
Just my opinion sorry if I offended anyone
