Curious/Confused by Dodo

So, this is something that's been bugging me for a while, and I'm sorry if I offend people, but...
What's with the Colors! community's fascination with furries and furry OCs? I see them everywhere, and sometimes I get annoyed because they are literally everywhere. What are people watching or reading that inspires these OCs?
While we're at it, what's with the obsessions with Sonic characters and MPL fan characters? If somebody could try and explain this to me... maybe I'm too old fashioned?

Eh, it's something that's been going on for a while that pops up in just about every artistic community I've seen. Comes from being inspired to make a character or wanting to interact with characters in which the primary sentient life form is not human. Personification happens (unless it was already in place such as in the Somic series) and bam, you have furry OC's.

I know how you feel. It really gets on my nerves! XD
Can't people at least try to be creative?

That is another thing that irks me. All of those furry OCs really do pretty much look the same, maybe just different colors. Which means the term "Original Character" has pretty much lost it's originality.

Exactly my thoughts.
Even the personalities are usually the same: "A nice person, but has a demonic side that takes over when they're angry" is the usual basis.
That's why it's hard to find true originality now. :/

That's the thing 'bout an artist, we all want to try something new to improve our skills and to better our view on others art, not all anthro or animal ocs are the same, but you're kinda right, there is rarely any creativeite in oc's like that, but thats how some artist start out. :)

Many furry ocs look similar because they're generally either wolves or cats(often domesticated. wild cat ocs are rare) or ponies(generally only in mlp style). :O You'll see the same thing on deviantart too.

Also wolves are probably the most popular animal on here and other sites(youtube, deviantart, etc).

@bluetail Not to mention how they are all insane and love it(ie "I don't suffer from my insanity, I enjoy every minute of it")(and all seem to have the same exact form of insanity).

I see what every body is saying. And I can see how this would be a way for people to get better at drawing. But what I would like to see is those artists practicing with other styles, experimenting with different body types instead of drawing the same thing over and over again.. That's what I like to encourage, taking risks and exploring art.

The OC characteristics will probably be my next rant painting. Things like "OC pet-peeves", if you get what I'm saiyan. (<--- Can't help myself, Iove that joke. waka waka!)

I'll never understand the sonic or MLP obsession. Maybe people are just nuts.

My personal interest in furries sprouts from my love for animals. I know my primary fursona isn't way creative being one of those domestic cats, but she's the, only one that's stuck with me for years...and I've just come to enjoy having her. I've made my secondary fursona a skunk though, since those are much less popular and I believe my personality fits one better. At this point, I'm doing my best to be unique with characters by using many different breeds of foxes (not your typical red), different domesticated dogs, and under-used Pokemon charas unless they represent a Pokemon I actually own in some shape or form. I love being different, and though being a furry isn't uncommon, I strive to be a more creative one.

I feel the same way as you. What is this world coming to? If fitting in means drawing those weird little things, I'd rather be an outsider, thank you very much.

They should change it from "Original character" to "generic character". If 2 or 3 O.C's are the same, fine, but I see way too many Soinc characters that are almost exact replicas of already existing characters or are the ulimate degree of a particular stereotype. Basically, these characters belong to people who don't want to try new things or don't want to put any effort into their creations. I see this on scratch all the time.

I totally didn't see this before!
Honestly, the furry art you see on Colors is vastly different from the furry art you see on more prominent furry sites like furaffinity. The furries you see here are more of OCs and fancharacters for warrior cats and similar series. MLP and Sonic, while both anthro, are usually considered a separate fandom, as the furry fandom is more of the idea of anthro beings.
You're really just getting one of the many shit sides of the fandom. Sorry about that!
