Oliver's older brother (Avery) became the captain of his own ship, and let Oliver work as his navigator. Avery became increasingly reckless, engaging in pointless battles. He began to loose members of his crew, and eventually there weren't enough members to win a battle. Avery disregarded this and fought anyways, and ended up being ki lled. After Avery's death the remaining members of his crew disbanded after raiding the ship. Oliver was left only with his Avery's beloved parrot Isla. Oliver reluctantly took her in even though he's allergic to birds. After Avery's death Oliver searched for work.

How he met the Captain: While searching for work Oliver stopped at a bar (or the pirate equivilant of a bar??) and met a woman who seemed to be lost. He offered to help get her back on course and pulled out one of his many maps to show her where to go. After listening to his explination and getting to know him, she offered to bring Oliver along in case she got lost again. (sorry if the Captain wasn't in character!!)

Personality: Oliver appears to be timid, but he's actually very outgoing and loves adventure. Although he loves to try new things he is also quite fearful and worries a lot, but can usually overcome his hesitations. Oliver is very proud and doesn't like to admit to his weaknesses. Some of these include the fact that he can't sharpen his machete himself, and that he's basically useless without a map in hand. Oliver carries maps for every ocean and country you might land on in his backpack.
