Design may be odd and all, but they tried to make it look like a tablet, like an IPad to get younger audiences. Because people like tablets. Why the name 2DS? Because I don't know. They put off the 3D because kids 8 and under can't see 3D because it'll mess up their eyes. And that is the point of the #2DS.
