@M. Collins, Awesome. I wish it could be done on 3DS, I prefer watch paintings on console than on computer. I belive it is related to Nintendo censorship policy.
About 3DS: I wonder, if someone wrote a script (i.e. for Photoshop) or an App, that takes the 3D paintings and makes it compatible to a 3D TV. I really would like to see some of the paintings in 3D, but don't have a 3DS, but a TV capable of 3D. In theory it is quite simple: The App/Script needs to import all layers from project (they are stored as 1 PNG for 1 layer), then duplicate the painting either SBS (side-by-side) or Top-Bottom with half width (SBS) or half height (Top-Bottom) for each eye. Then it needs to shift the layers in the opposite directions for each eye. So the back most layer needs to be shifted left for the left eye, right for the right eye, middle layer stays the same and top layers need be shifted right for left eye and left for right eye, and so on for the layers between. (those need to be shifted less then top or back most of course) This can easily done by hand in any better image editing program, but that's to much work for every pic separately. Sadly I don't know much about scripting in Photoshop. :( Anyone knows if there is something like this available somewhere? Really would love to see some paintings in 3D!
@stuepfnick StereoPhoto Maker is a freeware program that allows you to make anaglyphs and other stuff with mpo files (the 3D images). Layers aren't saved in png files, they aren't even saved in mpo files. Mpo files contain righ-left image, basically 2 jpgs combined together.
The program is quite easy to use, and if you can do crosseye, you can see everything in 3D. You may want export 2 files and make an animated gif of them. If not, then the program also allows the image to being filtered in that way so you can see them with glasses and it can do other stuff, perhaps good for you TVset. Keep in mind that the pictures there are quite small and I doubt you will enjoy a tiny picture on a big screen.
@Twarda. Thx for the tip, I'll try that Stereo Photo Maker. Anyway in the iOS version each layer is stored as a separate PNG image file, within the project folder. The topmost is 01.png and the last is 05.png, if you use all of them. With an App like iFunBox it's no problem to copy those files to PC/Mac. As said, it could be done in Photoshop i.e. in about 15-30 minutes, and every 3D TV (at least I know off) can show SBS and Top-Bottom images/videos in 3D. Its just a little to much work, for every image, so a script, that can do that in no time would be great!
PS: .mpo would also work, at least PS3 can view it, and it could be FullHD for each eye. With SBS you "only" get 960x1080 per eye and Top-Bottom 1920x540 per eye, which would be way enough too, and I guess more compatible.
PPS: I did a quick test with a pic to create a Top-Bottom 3D-image out of it, it works quite well and looks nice in 3D! Anyone interested can download it here: http://stuepfnick.macbay.de/3dpix/FirstTry_TopBottom3D.jpg
I shifted each layer 10 pixels from the next layer, if you think it's too deep, I should do less, if not deep enough, then more …
This can be viewed on practically any 3D capable TV! And for those of you with passive 3D, Top/Bottom does not reduce resolution as much, as Side-by-side. Any suggestions for other conversions welcome! The only problem: Some of the 3D paintings are missing layers, when I copy them to my paintings. :-( You'll find some more 3D conversions later, at: http://stuepfnick.macbay.de/3dpix/
I consider writing an App in REALBasic, that can do the conversion on the fly (with a slider for depth), but I'm not sure, if it's worth the effort, as it takes only about 10 mins, to do it manually …
@Twarda: Ohh, now I found out, what you mean. On the browser you can download the Pictures directly as .mpo!
Ok, that's quite nice, but why are they so extremely lores? Too bad, I guess, I still have to do it myself. But at least I now have a comparison for the right depth … :-/ With my way, combining the layers Top/Bottom I get an average resolution of 1500x540, that looks stunning on TV, compared to the lousy 320x240 of the .mpo files you can load, also I can set the depth by myself.
@stuepfnick They are bigger but StereoPhoto Maker makes them smaller, I think. Even then, pics done on Colors are still small. Btw, 3DS colors saves as jpg (in 3DS Camera), png (online), mpo (3D, online) and drw (playback - which I'm not quite sure where to access it. But I never searched anyways). It does not save each layer separately.
I don't have 3D TV set and so top bottom doesn't work for me. I prefer side by side or anaglyph pictures. Or better - my 3DS.
@Twarda: Did not try StereoPhoto Maker yet, just found out that you can download paintings as .mpo from the website (also the .drw can be found here), but those are quite crap, because only 320x240 and beside that, the frontmost layer is on the screen, and all other behind screen. (I prefer medium layer onscreen, frontmost come out, and back layers go in)
So, I rather do it myself. I download the paintings to my iPhone in Colors, then copy the paintings folders out of the app (with the use of iFunBox), in that drawer you find each layer as a separate PNG file, the typical resolution is 960x576, but that differs. I have to open all layers in Photoshop and move them on top of each other, then I run I script, I recorded and the Top-Bottom 3D image is ready to save.
This looks so great on TV! I really love the 3D paintings now. :-D
With the layers, you could also continue to work on your paintings on PC or Mac programs …

@ M. Collins, I was wondering if you can see this. It was neither painted on 3DS nor IOS.

@Twarda: paintings from Nintendo DS, iOS, and Playstation Vita devices are all grouped together on the same gallery.

Very good for a first test.

@stuepfnick Yup, I use 3DS but I wanted to test DS version.
