Mississippi, you don't suck at drawing. I remember when I used to draw rainbows with the color bands oriented radially (as opposed to along the circumference of the bow) outward from the anti-solar point. You are observing things accurately at least. You just need to relax your mind and take a good look at the thing you are trying to draw (hopefully you have an example to reference, but not trace, like an object in real life). As you let yourself consider the object at length, you will begin to notice patterns, shapes and details that you weren't even aware existed. I hope this helps you towards becoming a great artist.
