space station by stuepfnick

A space station, orbiting red planet. (tried something from my imagination instead of a real object)

I get quite bad compression artifacts at layers with low opacity. Anyone knows, what affects that compression? Duplicate painting? Or just save & reload? Thx

PS: Sorry for replacing it again, but that's final now, I promise! ;)

What do you mean by "compression artifacts"?

When I have a layer with brush strokes with low opacity (like the flares of the sun in this pic) it looks fine while painting, but after I save and get back, it looks worse.
That layers seem to get some lossy compression, like a jpg. I guess every layer has a little lossy compression, but normally it's not really visible, only at layers with low opacity. That's a bit annoying, as it needs some rework everytime (or you go with bad quality).
Btw. I found a way to import any pic into the App. (using a tool on PC/Mac) Tried it quickly and so far no problems. Look at comments at painting "Simon" by Superhero.

Ahh, I know what you're talking about! That has happened to me with a few pics. I think the only way to fix it is to draw over it. Btw, I saw your comment about importing photos onto Colors. Thanks.

I see, so I'll try to avoid layers with low opacity, if possible.

I hope that import-stuff works without problems, I just tried it quickly and it seems to work. I found that out more accidentally, because I couldn't move my 1st test painting from lite to full version, I tried iFunBox and saw that the layers are stored as PNG in the project. ;-)

There are quite a lot of issues with the layers on Colors. Whenever I use the eraser tool on a layer, it appears on the playback as a white line and ruins it. Question: Are you writing comments with your iOS device now? If so, how do you make seperate paragraphs, I can't do that when I comment with my ipod.

Hm, the eraser seems to work correctly here (iPhone 4, iOS 6.1.3). Only had this problem once, when I copied the Test painting from Lite to full version, but the light version has no layers, so I guess that was the problem. Did not have this problem in full version, I used eraser a lot in this painting. And the comments with new lines, I wrote on my MacBook. Another thing I wonder: Why does the gallery only shows 3DS paintings in browser? It shows other platforms, if you search for artist or enter the link, but in New Paintings, Top rated, etc. I only find 3DS paintings.

I always experience that low opacity thing, what I do is make a small spot using the desired opacity then pick that color then use it 100 opacity. Colors have many glitches like layers merging or disappearing layers. Some of my paintings has been branched 10+ times just to fix playback

@BambooVase: sounds bad. I just can hope to have less problems … Anyway, I found out, that layers are used for 3D on the 3DS, so if you want to see this in correct 3D, you need to merge down background to 1 layer and space station to 1 layer. At such distance you barely see any depth in reality, only the station could be a little more in the front. ;)

PS: There seem to be some bugs in the gallery as well: Yesterday I had -1 followers, gladly today I have 0 again! LOL ;)

Now you can DL a 3D-version (only 2 layers) of this station for your 3D-TV (need to set to Top/Bottom 3D) :)
