Simon by Superhero

Someone wondered if I could do a painting without ref so this is what I managed to come up with. The sketching took way too long.
Enjoy!

Awesome as always! I wish I had a tracing option on my ipod, I'm sick of spending too much time trying to get the composition and proportions right.

Very well done, for not having a reference! I know that it takes a lot more work doing stuff from imagination ;-)

Ooh, you draw on an ipod! Does that disable the layer options? Because that would make things a lot harder.

I have the layer tool, I just don't use it properly lol. I usually use it for the background only.

@Collins: You mean, that you can't import a picture as a reference on iOS? Yeah, that's a bit annoying, I really would like to load some of my pencil drawings in Colors! and color them …
But anyway it has its upsides too, so you get more practice with drawing right proportions and such and it does not seduce you, to go the convenient way of using a photo as In-App reference … ;-)

@stuepfnick: yeah, but I've lost count of the number of times I've scrapped a painting, just because one small part of it was too difficult to paint. A reference would remove that problem.

Haha, I used to do that to before because I had only worked on paper and canvas. but the layers do make everything a lot easier once it feels ok.

Hey besides I learn A LOT more from using references now then I did when I was totally opposing to the idea. Just sayin...

@superhero: I agree, I think that I would improve my drawing abilities a lot faster by using references.

@Superhero: It is good to use references, no question, but I personally think, that you learn more, using this reference just beside (i.e. on a screen on other device, printed photo, etc.) But I also agree, that sometimes it can be useful to use a reference as background and directly paint over it. (i.e. for hard to do pics)

There are layers in the iOS-version, but you cannot import a picture as reference.
@Collins: But anyway, I just tried and found a way:
Create a new painting in Colors, then download iFunBox to your Mac/PC, connect Device to Computer, open iFunBox, go to "User Application", select "Colors!", navigate to Documents/paintings/ and the highest number (i.e. 22) is the actual project, copy this to PC, take any Pic you want and save it the same size as "01.png" in the project folder (maybe other sizes work, did not try), and replace 01.png from project with your reference pic. Then quit and restart Colors! and boom you have that picture as layer, so you can create another layer and paint above the pic you imported.

Btw. if there are more layers, 01.png is the upmost and the higher the number, the lower the layer.

PS: What is most annoying and confusing: The manual tells how to import something from photo library as reference, but this feature is not present in iOS-version, I had to mail support because I thought, I had a problem with my iPhone. :-/
