The reason Charizard and gyarados are not Dragon type is because in gen 1, (when they were created) The only dragon type move was dragon rage. lol

Charizard doesn't need to be Mega. He is already BA (A for Apple.)

Megazard is fire/flying to retain the starter type triangle. (grass/fire/water)
