@ThatGuyWasTall-Not much to say, really. One tip I learned recently for shadows and highlights is to not JUST pick a darker or lighter shade; switch to a slightly "hotter" color if you're doing lighting or "cooler" color if you're doing shading. Also, I usually have the colors, shading and outlines on different layers so I can easily mess around with each however I see fit before I merge 'em.
