Feather awoken from her deep sleep. She got up and streched. Her parents den was quiet. She sighed.//I'm up early again//She thought. She padded out to see the clear stars.''Todays the star-count!''She watched as the stars came down around her.''And there will be a new guardian!'' She padded to the prey pile and pulled out a raven. She ate it quietly.

Bluejay followed Feather to the pile. She wasn't hungry, so she just looked up at the sky.

Feather looked around as everybody was getting up. The queen padded out of her den to the announcing rock.''Today is the Star-count.We are going to pick a new guardian. We don't know which one yet but at the ceremony we will.''

Bluejay looked at the queen exitedly. //wow, a new gardian! And the starcount!// OUO

Feather looked around and got up. She padded to her parents den,//No one still?//She thought to herself.She padded out and went looking around.
