I quickly got to work. There wasn't much work to do. Taking a paper from my secret stash of printing paper, I scrawled my creation on the perfectly white sheet. It had a kangaroo body with a lion head and the tail tuft of a lion. It also had koala ears.
I'm not exactly sure what my reasoning was when creating this chimera-esque creature. I had not yet been exposed to the concept of chimeras nor had I had any interest in things that were not anatomically correct. So here it was! This...thing. After finding his paper years later I realize I never gave him a name. Very odd. I decided to name him torchlight(no caps.) Back to the story.
With my friend designed, all I had to do was wait. Right? They were just testing my patience. I thought and believed with all my heart and all my mind. If I kept this up long enough, he would just come to me! Try as I might, no one appeared.
And I think,
That was the first time I was ever truly disappointed. Not because I was told to feel disappointed, not because everyone else was disappointed, but because I had my /own/ expectations that were crushed by reality.
