Gastornis: The Eatter of Horses by Larka

A requested art pic for Taojat, this six-foot tall predatory bird haunted the forests of the Eocene era. I would have drawn it hunting after or eatting some Propalaetherium (early horses), but I probably would have upset all the Bronies. It was hard to draw this without it looking like some harmless and obese emu, because of it's skull shape and bulk, it's harder to make it look like a threatening predator (unlike the South American terror-birds such). #prehistoric #animals #birds #sketch

I for one feel that I successfully was able to capture the predatory aura of this terrifying bird without accidentally making it look silly (I mean the creature's beak was designed to crush bones like brittle toffee!)....

This was drawn very well! I admit my Gastornises and other predatory fossils can look too friendly and/or silly, but I suppose that could just be from my style. I like the feathers, too, those speckles must work very well for camouflage.

At first, I thought this was Diatryma!
