The Japanesses are for sound effects. :)
In box 6 there is Japanesses symbles for a sound and the english next to it is translating the sound. So in box 6 the sound is THWAMM (cuz Utako slams into Choukichi). In box 7 the sound is splash because Utako and Choukichi fall into the bath. :3
I hope this helps you understand better. I'll try to put the japanesses sound effect and the english translation closer together so you know what the sounds are
