I always assumed that happened because the person once had a follower, but that person unfollowed them, it's the only logical explaination i could find.

Also on a painting if only one person commented, then that person deleted their comment, colors still says the painting has one comment.

when i followed it said 6 followers but when i checked artists he followed it said 2 but it had 3 on there?

yeah i looked up the other one u mentioned when i followed it still said 2 followers instead of 3.and it also said -1 that he followed weird

I hope it doesn't mean they can see ur identity if it says"-1".
normally it just leaves it at the number B4 in other accounts.

It's an updating bug. The Colors! app only updates the values of followers, likes, comments, etc. every few seconds/minutes/hours/days/weeks/months. Right now I have 2 followers but it says 5. I guess in your case it updated the followers going down but never going up, so it gave a negative value, because that's the next lowest value in the number field. [If you know a little object-oriented programming, it's probably an 'int' or 'double' value.]
