Shadow Creatures don't just eat souls for the fun of it. The memories affect the flavor. Someone with horrible and depressing memories will attract Shadow Creatures while someone with more cheerful memories would repel them. You see, memories aren't locked to your mind. Souls don't work that way! Our brains store information. Information is gained from experience. Experience becomes memories and memories... They're what define who we are.
