Try out casual mode first. Get used to the gameplay, beat it then try out normal mode. Try out different pairings the 2nd time around. You'll love it.
I don't have skype though so I can't do anything about that sorry. -_-;

It means to put together 2 characters on the battlefield in as many missions as possible.
Their affinity will grow enough so that their stats will gain bonuses when they're near each other making each other stronger than normal (it wears off when they get to far away from each other)

When they like each other enough, they'll marry and have a child (I kid you not) The best part is that the child will gain an ability based on who their parents are and join you on the battlefield.

Even your unit who you created at the beginning can marry and have a child.
It's a pretty deep system. ^_^

I'm guessing Hibiki is the character is you created right? Those 2 will gain a high friendship level eventually. But they'll never marry and they'll never have kids.
