I put way too much time into this... it's because I'm... really not that good. I sort of skipped grade seven, and grade eight doesn't have art classes... so I didn't learn much about art in school recently.

Me happened something similar, i couldn´t go to an art university for money problems. Due to this i had to learn throug books of "how to draw manga", so i can say you that you will improve someday if you put this effort. You only need time and try and error :)
