I just looked it up.
Germans had dieties instead of gods, and supposedly they belonged to two tribes that waged war on each other. After nobody could claim victory the dieties made peace and exchanged hostages...

Anubis was once a God of reincarnation. Egypt came together as a whole, everyone became confused as other Gods mixed in together. No one knew what to believe in anymore. Anubis later dubbed as one in afterlife/chaos. He is one of my faves as well. :)
