You won the American Revolution, with Spanish cannons, French ships, Dutch rifles and foreign supplies. You didn't even take part in WW1 until near its end, when the allies had already proven they could win without you. You only joined WWII when you were attacked and when war had been raging for 2 years. In WW3 you'd probably have fought half a day before surrendering and losing.
