Thanks everyone! :) The shading takes some practice to get just right, but it seems to be the key to a good painting along with the 3D effects. Also, you may notice that the purple surface is on two seperate layers to give it a little extra depth. And sorry for uploading twice.. I forgot to sign it the first time.

one more thing... the shading doesn't give it dimension when the 3d is off, because of the fact that the shading isn't curved. But hey, it's still your first and still really good.

I also like the placement of the objects, it allows the eye to travel in a triangle, and the space background allows that empty space to have meaning.
