This sixteen foot long (six foot tall) predator is Andrewsarchus mongliensis, a mesonychian that lived during the Eocene era. It may look like a member of the Carnivora family (cats, wolves, bears, raccoons), but it's closest living relative is the goat! This ungulate had hooves instead of true claws, and had one of the most powerful bite forces of any predator. Some scientists, however, think that it was not a true predator and only ate carrion. (Continued Description) I, however, do not agree with this theory. A creature with a scavenger diet would not need such a bite-force, that's like using a diamond-edged tool to cut tissue paper. Also, such a large body would need a good deal of energy to feed it, this is why most modern scavengers are small in size. This creature is, of course, the largest known carnivourous land-mammal to exist.
This is the first of a new mini-series that I am doing, all inspired by Taojat's mini-series....
