I've never gotten anything liked more than seven times. TT^TT
I have 63 followers, and I don't think HALF of them follow me because of my art. It's because I'm a friend good friend of someone who started a Colors! 3D trend. And another because people are having these "follower races". Apparently whoever follows the most people, or EVERYONE, they'll be the king of Colors or something. ;^;

I totally agree with you. I had 292 fans. Had plenty friends. But here? NOOOOO! It's really hard making friends here, and gaining fans/followers. (Been here over a year. :c)
It also sucks because of how much people rant. (Like now. XD) But, now it's over silly things like, "No one wants to my my boyfriend!" or, "Everybody hates my art!" when they have over a hundred followers and got over twenty-five likes on that rant painting.

Oi oi oi! Don't give up just cause you feel discouraged! I do realize the frustration that comes out in this sort of situation. It happens to everyone. Sometimes people have amazingly, top sh it ideas that are totally worth some recognition. But do they recieve any? No, not all the time. And it pains me when they quit or leave because they don't get enough attention for their hard work, or they don't rally up enough fans. In all honestly, I know some people are impatient ans throw down what I say, but I think it's within the respective time that each people finally have their chance to shine. Each and everyone one of us has the ability to get in the TWB and Top Ranked. (Tracers not so much, unless it's their own stuff, y'know?) Doesn't really matter if you've got raw talent or not. Working hard earns respect. Keep working like you have been and you'll earn tons of it, my man :) And fans are crazy. Sometimes people will add just anyone. People like me add people sometimes on their abilities, but MAINLY on the person they are. If they show trye qualities of a friend, I'll add them once I get to know em'. Others won't add anyone. Absolutely no one. you win some, you'll loose some. The ones you loose will be replaced by ten more adoring ones who really wanna see you succeed. Anyway, Just want you to know what I think. Never give up, work hard, keep trying. Don't be discouraged by the amount if fans you have or how sometimes your best doesn't recieve enough recognition. You'll gain more and more with time. Just be patient, stay calm :) Really hope I helped boost your confidence ^^/ See ya' round, bro <3

I'm not exactly discouraged. I'm sure if I had stayed committed to Colors last year, this drawing wouldn't even exist. (i didn't quit btw, i just kinda lost interest in colors, i guess, after one of my paintings got a lot of likes) But! I'm glad I didn't commit myself to Colors and become popular because now I can be an inspiration! I'm now living proof that you /can/ get into This Week's Best without hundreds of followers.

Honestly, followers don't really contribute to likes on a painting, or TWB status; If it did, I'd be getting 4OO likes a picture, but In reality my art averages 25 likes.
But, now that I've said this, does it really matter? I mean, people should be doing Art for fun, to share with their friends, ect. Not for popluarity. If a person is, they've failed as an artist.
Draw for fun, not likes, y'all. Plus, TWB isn't really 'magical' like people make it sound.

Depends on what kind of followers you have actually but they can be a bigger contribution than you think. And yes, it shouldn't be a popularity contest but what really matters is /feedback/. I could care less for likes but deep down, that's what all people want...opinions from other people on their art. It's the lack of attention that hurts them. The point I'm making here is that it is an incredibly difficult feat without having prior support.
But yes, people...listen to this person. Make art for fun...intrinsic reasons, not extrinsic reasons

Personally, I came here for the social aspect and pony fanart. I got slightly bored and decided to draw a pegasus OC. Somehow, my 'skills' got me 5 followers. I'm actually surprised how many I got. You just have to make sure you have fun. Draw for your own leisure and people will like it. Be optimistic.

@PK Yeah, that's true. I know if I truly wanted followers, I could just simple art like crazy. But they're not a priority. I would like to see more feedback on my paintings which is the perk of having lots of followers.

@Keldeo Collecting Smiles could do a bit more to make the online community more social friendly but the update did tweak that a little.
