Hhmmm... experience on manga style... well i guess if you put strong colors and a little bigger eyes can work but i don´t know...
It deppends on if you want to do a cartoon or a realistic one. If you want to do something manga-realistic i recommend you watch examples of my gallery (i hate to do publicity of me XD) or @nobbs gallery that is even more realistic (example: final fantasy)
But not always manga style means bigs eyes, that pic is a good example of manga-realism XD

Well, manga characters don't usually have definitive cheekbones. And they have big eyes. I love this drawing, though. I'm desperately trying to get away from anime/manga style.
