I usually don't do bases because I know Sonic's figure so well.

I used to do that with DBZ characters, but the picture turns out better when I sketch it first. Everything is more balanced whenever I sketch it first but when I didnt, I might have one arm bigger than the other or the head too big or too small, etc.
