That rumor came from Nintendo losing over 3 Billion dollars the past few years. Which is damaging for a company. Nintendo was on the verge of bankruptcy but recent sales are keeping them afloat. Ive seen a few guys on colors calling Nintendo money grubbers for charging that fee for the new flipnote app, but you guys don't know how business works. Nintendo really needs that money. If you don't want Nintendo to do a Sega and just produce software, support Nintendo. Pay the fee :/

[CreativeInc] Because of the 3 billion dollar loss, they didn't have enough money to produce the Wii U. They were thinking of delaying the console for a few more years. Nintendo's horrible marketing department isn't helping much since a lot of people still don't know what a Wii U is.

The 3ds was selling awfully but now it has sold more in 2 years than the DS had sold at this point. The wii u will turn out the same, it'll turn out fine for nintendo. It always has its ridiculous fans who buy everything it releases. It's just synics who arent prepared to give wii u a chance who write cra.p like that. (rant over)

Well, Nintendo is one of the BEST video game companies in the WORLD so I see NO reason why they would do that. But a third party developer would allow thier games to be on all consoles, just saying, though.

Anyways, nintendo is in no dire straights, ever since the gamecube there has been overblown perpetuated rumors on the company regarding its survival.
They are not in dire straits, the wii u was sold at a loss, but software sales have insured a net profit. They have hefty cash reserves too, the company isnt going anywhere, its a very thrifty company, it hasnt existed since THE 1880'S by random chance.
As for making consoles, gaming isnt going ANY. WHERE. There will always be a demand, miyamoto recently did many interviews as did iwata (ceo) they make consoles to sell their product, and they intend to continue to do so to make high quality software by their own means. As huge as gaming is, as valuable as nintendo's intellectual properties are, there will ALWAYS for any forseeable future be a demand for quality games, and nintendo continues to deliver.

OMG CALM DOWN! it was just a ps3/xbox 360 fanboy hating on nintendo. if u pay attention to whats actually happening, nintendo is financially stable to take a loss in funds, the wii was the # 1 selling console of the seventhth generation so they have nothing to worry about.

Just look at Nintendo Stocks over the years. Just Google "Nintendo verge of bankruptcy" Nintendo lost most of that money from the unsuccessful Wii. Everyone had a Wii because its was really cheap but Nintendo has this /pride/ issue where they let stockholders make their decisions and tend not to work with 3rd party developers. Lets face it, the Wii sucked. The only good games on it where under the Nintendo franchise (like Zelda, Metroid, and Mario). Though, I like where the Wii U is heading with their games but unless they try to better market their new console, Nintendo won't make enough money to get far.

The Wii was unsuccessful? If anything I thought it was THE most successful console Nintendo ever had.

If you account handhelds, its actually the DS at aproximatley 150 million.

I don't really have a problem with that because I play Nintendo handhelds and Xbox.

This is a huge problem for me. Only consoles I own are nintendo. No Xbox or Playstation or any of that.

Personaly i am sick of paying $200 every few years for another DS... I think Nintendo needs to be more focused on Games not upgrading good systems. I mean the 3DS and WiiU are good at least til two thousand twenty.

Well another reason i believe is Xbox and Playstation steal nintendo's ideas. I mean the Wii comes out, Playstation Move comes out. Wii Fit comes out Kinect comes out. Whats next? Xbox or PS making a console with a gamepad or a 3D screen? -.-

I dont think they should stop making consoles. I have a OLD playstation 2 from the 1980's I love to play it all the time. :[

Now, I'm gonna get a lot of hateful comments, but I prefer Sony. Nintendo is definitely the better company for making kids games, but Sony seems to care a bit more about their customers and their interests. If any of you knew what Flipnote Hatena was, that's a great example. I mean, there were people on there that had worked hard to earn their place, people that had dreams., and Nintendo shut it all down for money reasons. Honestly, they could of just released a few more Mario games, and that would have made up for it and more.

If Nintendo can get with the times and take out all the cheap gimmicks, then mabye they can keep making consoles... :l

Yuss Phantom, I know.. but I'm sure they could've handled having both, except that they were having money issues with that.

Also, they wanted people to pay them for being on there. That's what I meant when I said "money reasons." I should have been a bit more descriptive. Sorry 'bout that..

^I think Nintendo wanted people to upgrade to a 3DS not keep a DSi is why they shutdown Hatena. They are stopping ALL Nintendo Wi-Fi for DS titles soon because most Routers do not support Nintendo Wi-Fi and the 3DS' Supports alot more.

They didn't even have the original PlayStation in the 80's. Sony didn't even announce the PlayStation until the mid 90's. Besides, PlayStation isn't affiliated with Nintendo at all.

Some people say Nintendo should make games for smartphones. This is a stupid idea as no smartphone game is any near as good as Nintendo.

Nintendo is known for consoles! They would never stop making consoles, but I do wonder how they will top WiiU and 3DS.

Nintendo is NOTHING like Sega. Sega failed many times, like the Sega CD, 32x, Saturn. Nintendo only failed once with the Virtual Boy. So if the Wii U fails, Nintendo can still make another console.

btw nintendo wouldnt stop making consoles, alot of u dont realise but nintendo just try to make cheap consoles that are easy to access, all nintendo megafans are very casual gamers and nintendo just pump out more and more mario games (though i do love mario games alot!) Now ps4 and Xbox one are coming out, with insane cababilities nintendo have almost managed to handle xbox360 capabilities!
But they do this on purpose to make the consoles cheaper.
Also i love that nintendo are always trying out new ideas unlike xbox/playstation
