But I suspect that art just generally trying to encourage others by saying how great everyones art is may come off as a bit silly and rudanant to more cynical folks. :B
I also prefer to "comment" on paintings instead of just complimenting them, my comments often features praise and criticism alike or none of them but I tend to comment encouragingly more often than not.
That being said, I propably wont participate in your contest, I like your ideas but it´s just not my way of handling things :P
I guess this contest will mostly encourage me to leave more diverse and well-thought comments on other people´s paintings since they will now be flooded with generic compliments such as "Awesome!" and "Great!" XP

To be fair though, a lot of these problems have toned down thanks to the features that came with the update.
Thanks to the following-feature, a lot more people feel like there are others who like thier art... even though there are still many underappreciated artists out there :(

Hi, Rogue. Excellent animation, as usual. I dont know how you make those so quickly, with no long pauses between the scenes. However.. this contest thing... even with the best intentions (and i know they are, coz youre a nice guy as far as i can tell), i think it feeds this neediness kids have for likes and followers (and not only on colors!, but any social network with these features these days, and again, not only kids, but here on colors! they're majority). Not to mention all the forced and cynical comments kids will post... just to become more popular. Your initiative is nice, i can see that. Encouraging kids (and not kids) making something they really like doing (in this case, painting) is SUPER valid, leaving comments with painting tips, etc. But so many kids here are just looking for attention, and everyone needs attention! but genuine attention. I myself wouldnt like to read forced compliments on my paintings. Anyway, i hope you dont get me wrong, as the bright kid you are. My criticism wasnt meant to you or so much to your contest, but to this neediness people have for as many ""friends"" as they can get. ;) Take care, RR. i really admire your work.

Well, it might not be my best work, but I'm done with my entree.

I decided to try something I haven't tried, put some of my best or most memoriable work towered up, saying we should keep building and not get knocked down.

I made sure each drawing meant something to me, detailing each one. And the message, challenging myself, one of my favorite. That's how I move foward, trying new things, like that upper view of a cliff and drawings.
Even applying it to real life, when I go for my midnight runs, I take longer routes, run up a three story buildings, all non stop.

By the way, did you ever see the #collab I did a few months ago? I put together some of the most well known non pony artists and turned them into ponies.

I hate to be the man to bring you this news:

Last night while I was drawing a birthday gift for someone, I checked for new drawings from the follow list.
I saw a message in red that said "goodbye".......it was Finsom, he had suic'idal thoughts again.
I jumped in, tried to figure out why he wants to kiII himself, he didn't answer.
I told him all I can, "would you rather move foward in life and discover new things or in a dark box underground" long comments.
Finally, said he'll patch up the wounds from his neck, chest, arm and other places he cut himself.
I took a breath of relief........then I saw that he commented "A gun or a knife"....
He later then went to some random galleries commenting "goodbye".

He hasn't responded for two hours, and his friends are now worried, commenting RIP Finsome.

Me, I just put my face on my pillow and just said "f***n da**it, geez" *deep breath*
I'm now just very sad to hear this, it gave me such a headache. I'm sorry if your friend.....well, ended it.

^OMG!! DX (im literally crying hugging my 3ds right now and i dont even know him) THAT'S HORRIBLE! oh plz lord let him be alive! *sobs*

I personally don't think people need empty compliments - but given ways to improve and encouragement to keep going.
While it is a positive thing, as people have mentioned - there are some attention grabbers around who only want publicity.
I think being an artist is being part of a community, not a constant competition. We don't need to feel being better than that one other person, but be glad to be put into the same group.

That's very true as well but I wasn't talking about realism only. You can make an abstract piece and still not like something you did in it. Of course not everyone is like this, but for those artists that are a little more picky, they can have a really hard time being artistic because they often don't like the work they create. It's not what they wanted to make, so they consider it a mistake.
My description was to tell those artists that just because they didn't prefer their art doesn't make it bad or a mistake, it was to tell them that that free artistic side of themselves was another art form in itself, and that anyone can like anything. (of course that was a little hard to convey with a limited painting description. But that was my intent.)

The advice was for everyone, especially for those who struggle with their own natural styles, but it was also applied to myself, because the advice originated from my own experiences.

If you've seen all of my art you'll see it doesn't really have one specific style... I'll paint a certain way and polish it till I'm no longer interested and then I'll look for something else I can learn how to do.
All my styles are based off of other people's styles, if I see a talented person I'll study their art form, perspective and attitude towards their art, till I can properly create my own version of it without a hitch.
So if we're going to lable it, I'd say "Copycat", "Conn Artist", "Parroting" or perhaps "Ditto"(the pokemon)... something like that.

Heh, sorry about that. When I heard about this, I wanted my message I learned from my dad and during my basic training, I still put that in life. At the gym, when I tell myself to lift 30, I hold it up, and put an extra 20.
I understand, I still can't believe it got that far, today, my thoughts were on how far I got here, and if I can tell these guys/girls to keep going, keep building, and keep better-ing(not a word XD) they can spread their message through art to many people.

But hey, with you being one of the top known here, if you can make more uploads with positive messages in them, they'll get some motivation.

And yeah, I'll try, last time, a PFC took down a platform while I was taking down a CK, walking backwards, I fell without knowing and injured my leg pretty bad.

I'll be fine with whoever wins, just choose whoever had the best message.

I have two days here before working in the sun and two hours of sleep per night, so might as well start drawing. Thanks again.

Actually nvm, to call my style a copy of something else isn't fitting.

Some of your paintings are fine, but I mean... "Boyfriends in love"? I barley agree with pictures of opposite genders in love paintings. You shouldn't share the wrong message with people, no matter how much it means to you. Do you really think gay is ok? A guy and guy can't make babies together, whilist a guy and girl CAN make babies together. It obviously wasn't meant to be. Do you even believe in God?

Noah, to answer your question, love is ALWAYS good. I love my parents. I love my friends. I love my cats. I love those who are no longer living, be they human or animal. And, some day, should I love a male soulmate, I will add that to my list and, every day, I will be thankful for that love because all love is precious. First off, thank you to those who have been so kind! I really appreciate it. Second, feel free to talk about the contest, even to tell me to hurry up, but please don't argue, fight or spam here. I have very little energy and I'm forced to use it to delete spam to get to actual comments. Just because I didn't feel up to deleting all the first spam doesn't mean it's an invitation to post more. You can tell me you think right is wrong or wrong is right, but please just keep it to a comment. There are many users on Colors who have these kinds of nice comments and great friends and still quit because of one or two people who choose to make other people's lives more tedious. This is the exact opposite of what I've been trying to promote with this contest. People are supposed to inspire and encourage each other. ^I'm really starting to think this is a form of sarcasm. Do people honestly believe love, a good thing, is bad? Please tell me honestly. Either way, to those offended by kindness, please consider visiting other people's galleries. There are many vio.lent paintings on Colors that may interest you instead. Also, if you notice, I haven't made a same-gender painting for quite a while. I never try to offend people, only to help.

To all those waiting for the contest results, I'm actually going to do a different animation first about my cat since I need to brush up on my drawing skills first and that will be more of a personal than professional work. Once I'm more focused, I'll make the contest results animation.

Hey Rogue Ranger, sorry for whatever is getting you down especially if it has to do with negative people on here. It's ok to be a little sad once in a while, but remember that we are here always for you, just focus on the positive-ness and the people who are actually nice and care and don't mind that you are gay. I'v been reading the comments and I noticed the negative ugly comments but also the people who are standing up for you. That's something to appreciate and i hope you can focus on that reason more than how other people are being mean. Anyways, hope you get better soon!

Noah, there are ways to express opinions and that is not it. Most here are againts you and no matter how hard you try and spam and tell people they are wrong, you won't win. If you are againts any kind of love, then what does that say about your love to your parents, or any girl you might love in the future? And people, remember what rogue said about spreading hate? I know noah is being harsh but it doesn't mean you should too. It might actually make it worse. Do it for Rogue Ranger. ^^

My beliefs, and my family, are againts same-se.x marriage.
I'm not hating gay.s, though... My pacifist personality conflicts with how I was raised [a first Presbytarian (Spell Fail :< ), then non-denomenation Christain girl that is against Same-se.x, but must still be kind, since God does love us all].
My issue here is just with the comment bringing divorce into the mix...
Comparing the two in the way you seem to be saying does not exactly help prove your point :T
Have you ever been in love? Not a crush, but actually dating, whatever gender [I'm not getting into that for my point here >:T ]?
I've never felt romance, and I never will, but I can view and understand it when I see others in love.
When a couple marries, they're in love, durp-durdurr, and that is good. They unite [not getting into that either :T ], which bonds them for life, as that always does in the heart.
Now when they divorce, even if they weren't meant for each other, the separation, especially after they had truly loved each other, is the worst heartbreak. This is why I find premaritial s.ex to be wrong: You won't know if he/she's the one until you marry, so the split after uniting is heartbreaking and very damaging to one's life.
My point is, don't use something as negative and wrong as divorce to prove a point about Same Se'x marriage just because the Bible calls them both wrong.
Also, yes, men did- over time- write the Bible, but it was by God's Word that they wrote it, not their own definitions of His Word :T
Sure there are numerous translations, but check the earliest Bibles, and the Original language[s?] it was written in.
Many scholars use ancient Bibles to help clear up Modern Bible Questions.
