Snagged! by Athens

Magic around pen, pen on paper, taking notes. He was your average, stereotypical, introvert with good grades. Now, the fact he enjoyed school, solitude and books was something other ponies assumed of him, but who would truly ever know? He didn't particularly /like/ schooling(let alone love it), reading was last-resort entertainment and he couldn't bear the thought of talking to the ponies around here.

Maybe it was his lack of familiarity with this city. Moving from a town to this city felt even harder than immigrating into the country itself. It was hard to explain, but he doubted he would ever convey this to anypony no matter how hard he tried. He sighed and continued to scribble down notes in some sort of ancient runes he would never be able to decipher later. It wasn't his fault he wrote so fast, it was Miss, no, /Doctor/ Faux who didn't know how to pace her lectures effectively. He hated how teachers here stressed their degrees in doctoring, how they exploded at you for the single slip of the tongue.

The fact that the subject was Equestrian history didn't make this class much more interesting either. It was something that had been beaten many times before into his mind, more or less burned into his memories for it's supposed importance. The saying "history can repeat itself" came to his mind, but he brushed it off for the sake of making himself as irritable as possible. There wouldn't be anypony to confide to either, no matter how insignificant he tried to make it seem. His craving for speech was more ravenous than ever in his self-imposed box of silence.

"Now," Dr.Faux picked up a marker with pale yellow magic, "for the Rule of Discord or should I say the lack thereof." She snickered as if that joke hadn't been used one hundred times over. After a few minutes of listening to the same information he learned as a foal, a sharp voice "Dr.Faux?" cut through the melody of pens and pencils scratching paper. He snorted and looked up to see a reddish orange pony, in the front row, raising her hoof.

Wow, even in 20 minutes, you still amaze me. I love it.

"Yes my dear?" Dr.Faux turned her attention directly to the student.
"Do we know how Discord came to be? Are we any closer to having an answer that doesn't depict him spontaneously emerging from some dark force?" Her was smooth, yet she spoke with a quick enough pace to sound precise.
Was it alright that he really, /really/ like the way she sounded?
"No, I'm afraid not. The old hoot won't tell us a thing and there isn't any physical records that could us any legitimate information. It's one of those subjects that is open to interpretation, dear." Oh how he loathed her use of ther word "dear."
"That is very unfortunate." she answered.

And the lecture resumed.

Now he wished the conversation could have continued a little longer, for her to say one more sentence. Wow, did she have a nice voice. Her accent was the same as every other pony, but her pitch was a little lower than your average mare. It was also probably her word choice and many other things coming together to create something he longed to hear. Wait, had he been staring at her? He couldn't even make out any defined features from this distance. How stupid he must have looked! He snorted and picked up his pen and tried to make up for lost time.

Ha, what was that anyway? /This is just a shallow, stupid, and baseless infatuation!/ he tried to convince himself. The only reason he was even attracted to her voice was the fact that he himself hadn't been able to openly speak with anypony in a while. His subconscious was growing desperate was all. I mean, who would possibly take something as mundane as speech so seriously? Somepony who was vocally starved, like himself. He would just have to call his old friends later on, that would solve the problem most definitely. He could just imagine them laughing at his foolery right now.

Except getting to a phone would be a lot harder than he would have wanted. He didn't exactly have the bits to buy one, nor did he want to take the chance of somepony else's. The reason was that he didn't want to look like some homesick puppy infront of anypony that was not close to him. /So this is the dilemma, hm./ he thought. Being trapped by anonymity, yet he dared not make a move to escape it. -done-

[horserat2] Nooo, Salamander could never dream of being this guy. xD I guess the unicorn-sideburns thing can thow people off, but they're completely different(though this guy is in one of my older paintings.)
