Well, Gorgons (Medusa is one btw) are a mythological species.
Even though there weren´t many of them in the original stories that doesn´t mean you can´t make them a full species in your own fantasy universe :P
Similarly, not every Minotaur that appears in your own story has to be the maze-owning one from Greek mythology.

Eh, most Elves in fiction are much older than that. I guess she would be considered very young among elves even though she reached a certain level of physical maturity decades ago.
