The oranges, derogatorily called embers, are lower middle class. They're the kind of people who live in the bad parts of town and work dead-end jobs for low pay. Lascivora believes she has no talents, so her only real goal is to find someone to love, which she wants desperately. However, she is very self-conscious about her appearance and weight, and thinks that no one could ever even lust after her, let alone fall in love.
