@FunDemise: Of course you can.
And yes, there are a few guidelines.
When it comes to antennas, females get straight ones.
There are no rules when it comes to their colors, but when it comes to pupils, I'd advise you to not have more than five of them in both eyes, as having six or more is considered a mutation.
The amount of circles in their symbols reflect their amount of pupils in one eye.
As for the eye COLORS, the blood color is in the scleras (eyewhites) and the hair color is in the iris.

I agree, though, the gray lines are a bit funky on black/blue...
