* years ago, a guy was texting and driving when he crashed into my dads Jeep. My father was fine, but the texter broke his neck. My dad sued him for twently thousand dollars in damage to his Jeep. The idiot texter-teenager is still paying off the money.

I live in Texas, were laws passed and those not passed make no sense. In Austin, we actually do a decent job, but often the state legislature will pass a bill that makes a law Austin passed, for Austin, is undone. For example, we had a law that protected Edwards Aquifer, our main source of water, then the state passed a law that applies to the whole state, but only effected that law. Apparently, having a good supply of water isn't nearly as important as private businesses getting to build where ever they want. The state legislature did this during our worst drought, to add injury to insult.

I guess my point is when your lawmakers preach personal responsibility, you'd better do what you're already doing, preach every responsibility people and businesses have constantly.

And on topic, the only way a phone is getting taken out of a pocket or otherwise reached for is by passengers. I don't care how important that call or text is, it can wait

If I made the laws, anyone caught drunk, or texting would never ever drive again. People can whine all they want about rights, there very few rights, mostly privileges and those disappear when you endanger someone else's life. No second chances.
