FlamingBlitz: They should definately be different in theme. They can have powers based on who their mother is. Also yes, whatever process works best for you. :)

Another tip: Don't be afraid to come up with a concept that's really out there. Originally, Serpia didn't have a snake growing from her hair when I first came up with the idea of a serpent princess. While I was trying to add some snake like elements to the design, I realized that if her hair was in a long ponytail it could be very similar to the form of a snake. Instead of dismissing the idea as weird, I went full throtle with it, resulting in the Serpia we have today. :)

Another tip: The father of Serpia was blessed by another goddess (his mother or sister) to have the most beatiful daughters. However, he got kinda jealous of his brother, whose children were blessed to be strong and courageous sons. Serpia's father wanted his to be the more powerful offspring, resulting in his children beingdaughters of some truly fearsome creatures and great natural forces. Keep that in mind when you design your characters. :)

^I'd recomend against it unless you're tracing your own drawings as a reference, which is probably what the person you're talking about did.

Okay, the whole rule about the sisters not being daughters of humans and goddesses really isn't a rule as much as it is advice. I will say however that you'll be more likely to win if your character has an obvious conection to some kind of natural force (either beast or something else).
