Haha yeah, cats actually need to be taught to use their scratchers (I know it sounds kinda dumb) you can do this by taking his paws (if he'll let ya) and wiping them on the scratcher until claws come out or by squirting them with a spray bottle of plain ol' water when they scratch where the shouldn't. The make weird floor scratcher things made of coregated cardboard, if your kitten is older than 3 months or so, you can try sprinkling some catnip in there and he might figure it out a bit better. Once they start scratching the furniture (taped or not) it can be difficult to teach them otherwise, but it's not impossible. Hope this helps. I love the painting, by the way^^
boyholes we try all that, the thing he scratches the most is my chair it has a fabric thing that slides on the chair and i has a pouch on it so i can hold my books and he likes scratching it couse one of my books has a ribben for a bookmark and he thinks thats a toy :/ one time i was sitting in the chair and he came running in the room and jumped on the chair but thats only couse my brother was playing with him so much that he jumped on the chair :/
i think he has grown out of scratcing that but know he scratches a table my mom made for her sewing stuff it has a table skirt on it and he scatches that and when we play with his he hides under it and then he runs after his toys he thinks his toys cant see him or something but if he is under there and u walk by he thinks your his toy and he paws at you its kind of funny he plays with a long thing of red yarn and he runs after it i love it when i get to play with him : )

We made a scrathing post out of some thick ropes, apparently it's better and the cat doesn't scratch the furniture.
