Ask him. Don't fear rejection-you will have to face the reality of rejection someday. This might prepare you for it.
Do not worry about looking like a loser. As you progress in life, you'll realize the real world doesn't care about what you were in school. You might regret not doing anything.
And as another user said, you will have many chances. If it's your nerves that worries you, here's the best advice I can give for that: JUST DO IT.
